A lot of companies see what Blizzard has acomplished with WoW and then look at the potential for their own games' worlds in a MMOG format. The problem arises when it comes to taking that hypothetical MMOG world and creating a final product that people will be willing to pay for
monthly. The fee is a particular caveat, because consumers will demand a higher level of support, value, and motivation to keep playing and dedicate oneself to that MMOG for the long term.
I personally find Fallout to be far more suitable for a MMOG than The Elder Scrolls at least, but the finality of any large MMOG undertaking must always be weighed strictly. The genre has proven itself not to be as forgiving as other recent game trends like the ubiquitous "realistic" or space marine shooter. By adopting a MMOG approach, a large segment of potential Fallout consumers, for instance, will be deterred because of the monthly fee, the dedication, or having a console preference over gaming PCs.
