I'm all for the writer making changes if a fan base is complaining, listening to criticism helps you learn what you're doing right and what you're wrong, without it you can't really improve. Why should anyone care about the silent majority? As long as they don't comment on stuff nobody knows if they like it or not, so it could also be the case that the majority doesn't like and simply doesn't comment.
