The way that works every time is you get the girl (mom, girlfriend, wife, whatever) to make a hunter on WoW. They will most likely hate it at first, but as soon as they realize they get to have a pet.........it never fails.

Roller Coaster Tycoon would be great. It is one of the greatest games ever created. Ever played it? If not you're missing out. Now excuse me as I continue to drown customers and build faulty rides...

My mom loves word-based games, I don't know why. Games like Boggle and Text-Twist. If your mom likes to think like mine, you might want to try those.

That or Animal Crossing.
Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon- anything like those would suffice

My mom used to be quite a fan of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. If you happen to have an N64 (or an N64 computer emulator) you could get that

Well. Something by Popcap, preferably Bookworm Adventures. It's a bit more complex and a bit less addictive than Peggle. Or you can ask her what she's a fan of,and get something related - as one guy here suggested,KOTOR (the first one) can be good idea for drawing Star Wars geek in it. Or Left4Dead if she likes zombie apocalypse movies (doubtful she actually likes them,but... who knows?).

Start off with old stuff, The Sims, Commander Keen, Space Invaders and then move up to something like Half-Life after that.
