They've finally made it. It only took 129 years since the Duden, the standard German word book (like the OALDCE in England, only official) asked for a Capital form of the sharp s. In 2008 they finally introduced in in Unicode revision 5.1 as letter U+1E9E.

Is it important? Definitely not. But this was probably the last chance to create a new letter in an existing language. And finally a computer technology, the Unicode, closes the gap. Weird times we live in.
