Hi Everyone

I have been wondering about this for awhile and wondered what you thought.
Most investors in the gaming industry tend to be in the electronics industry or people who have been a part of games industry, but who do you think outside of this would make a investment into the industry? It could through money, expertise anything.

Myself I think that only large companies such as energy companies could make a real impact, but I think an alternative could be a sports firm or club which wished to diversify beyond a single means of income.

Also I don't mean to just develop games, but also to purchase or invest in others companies e.g. Shell buying shares in Bethesda.

I'd rather gamers invested in games than people who don't understand gaming.

Otherwise we end up with more Ubisoft DRM, Activision shenanigans and we'll see EA return to its forsaken roots. Their recent decisions of - for lack of a better word - innovation has scared off a few investors and that's why John Riccitiello has been under fire recently. For making decisions like... creating new games and franchises while ending them appropriately. Also stopping their most recent DRM Debacle hasn't earned him any points either, with us it has... but not with the investors.

Having people from outside the game industry start purchasing the rounds... people who don't have a remote understanding in what makes games tick... I don't think that would be very good for us gamers. In fact, that should be the last thing we want.

Well most investors are most likely put off by the high costs, but most industries have outside investors.

Of course there are some problems, but educational institutions could play a greater role in development by creating greater talent and helping to support jobs after completion of courses.
