iPad Jailbroken in a Day

I jailbroke my iPod Touch so I could run games emulators. Final Fantasy VII (which I own the discs of, by the way) was a great reason to jailbreak, and I can play wherever.

However, I have a touch screen laptop that can run Foobar, Skype, and Firefox all simultaneously. I don't see a gap between my two hardwares that the iPad would fill. To me, it is about as useful as a stone.

I don't /hate/ the iPad as such; I just think it is a really stupid invention. My laptop has Wacom. If anyone wants to do something professional, then they'll avoid the Pad in favour of this.

So, I'll keep running my emulators, and using my touch screen that's quality enough to paint on.

Lesson of the Day: Do not think your product is un-hackable. If it can be made, it can be broken.

You know what kills me? People complaining about a product that they:
A: Never tried it.
B: Never owned it.
C. Say they'll NEVER own it.
D: Listen to hearsay and take their word as Bible.

I felt the same way about the iPad until I used one with a co-worker and I say it's pretty neat. If I had the money, I'd purchase one for art work instead of lugging around a huge art portfolio.

First, someone stated that there's no multi-tasking? Well by-George how WRONG you are. You can multi-task just as well on an iTouch/iPhone. Have your music playing and do other things at the same time, like browse the net. So please, before you start spouting off bullshit you didn't put work to validate your claim, find out.

Second, people getting pissed off at hackers and pirates when companies and the government use hackers all the time? Really? And not everything they do is legal. But it's okay because they're doing it for the "good of the people. Yeah, nice job. Also, ALL HACKERS don't go around making viruses. I don't know what 1990s propaganda you're still listening to, but I think you need to come to 2010. Some hackers do things in order to show all the loopholes and broken components, hardware and software that companies leave out. Some companies even appreciate when hackers find things for them to go back and fix. Also, PIRACY != HACKERS I don't know what gave you that impression, but you need to find another synonym that works.

I'm just sick and tired of "I hate this and I hate that" when yet again, people don't have legitimate reasons why they do. Did you hate the iPad because you truly hated it? Or are you being just as bad as the trendy mindless sheep and going along with hating it. Steve Jobs/Bill Gates does not have a gun to your head and saying, "BUY THIS PRODUCT TO SUPPORT MY COMPANY."

Did you really need to spend $199.99 for a 360 Arcade? Or $249.99 for your 360 Pro? Or maybe $299.99 for your Elite/PS3? And guess what? Or what about that new release game/movie/album? Did you get those things cause you wanted to? Or because of how overly hyped it was?

But PS3 and 360....Those things aren't portable. We're not even including all the accessories and games you kick out in order to play these games as well. Or even those that went out to buy a PSP Go? But did your Fanboyism for either Microsoft/Sony coax you into getting one? Or did you get it despite what others say? That's what people that use Apple do.

Some people get it for trend reasons. Some get it for the functionality and capability. Microsoft is not a consumer-friendly OS. You have to have some brain in order to really use one know half of its capabilities. Hell, some people don't know how to use Ctrl+C still. Or that Alt+<- sends you to the previous page. So just stop with all this Apple bashing. You're not any better than all that "I hate Microsoft/Sony/Obama/Democrats/Republicans" cause I was told so.

Yeah that's right, I said it. You're just as bad as the so-called "mindless sheep" that go around and buying Apple products for trend reasons. Now excuse me as I use my iTouch to listen to music and IM people in class. And yeah, at the same time.

Edit: Also, companies like Apple make things proprietary hardware/software cause they're a COMPANY MAKING MONEY. Stupid for marketing, but their sales say otherwise. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/01/21results.html

Trust me, reading their website won't hypnotize you buy their products, I promise.
You make an interesting point. The only thing I didn't agree with was your statement about Microsoft not being a consumer friendly OS. Most people may not know the advanced functions like the keyboard shortcuts but those functions are usually found in the menu of the program you are using and seen people easily find those. Not saying you are wrong but I don't believe Windows is that hard to figure out, even if you don't know all of the advanced functions. I got to play with the iPad recently, its a beautiful device but in the end I felt like I was playing with an iPod Touch that was given a Mushroom from Super Mario Bros.

let's see it got jailbroken in one day, and yet this SURPRISES people? seriously, it's a oversized i-phone minus the phone aspect, and those have been out long enough to hack, and apple being a big corporation, does as all people do, re-use apps from one product for use on the new product, (a good example being any windows after windows 2k since they all pretty much use the tech from old windows NT) so really, no big damned surprise, it's just an apple app station so you can use all the apps from the i-phone on a bigger screen, well minus actually making a call.

I always wondered if the "Mac vs PC" commercials would pan out at the end to reveal a Neo look-alike who would then state, "I'm Linux... And it's all a lie." Ralph Nader would work too, I suppose.

Also out of all the Apple haters how many of you have a valid reason and how many are just jumping on the bandwagon?
Valid reason here, at least. They directly oppose the GNU General Public License and all freeware released under it, which I work tirelessly to support and improve. Mostly because, at least in my opinion, you shouldn't have to pay for your OS, your web browser or certain tools (mostly the "Office" type software).

I'm perfectly willing to support companies like Adobe (who release certain of their software for free (Adobe PDF Reader and Adobe Flash Player, notably) and you're really paying for quality with their other products), but Apple tried to get the Free Sotware Federation shut down on the premise that "they're costing us millions in revenue." Any company that complains about "losing revenue" to freeware when they're making trillions every year deserves neither your money nor your loyalty.

I've said this before, but the second Steam announces support for Ubuntu-style Linux, Windows XP is gone from my computer.

What does Jailbroken mean?
To put it in lawman's terms, proprietary software on many mobile devices makes it so you can only run the software they let you run on it. Jailbreaking a device refers to the act of hacking it in such a way that you can run any application on it.

My reaction to this gambit on Apple's part is - If you're losing revenue to a free program that is developed as a hobby by largely non-professional programmers, you really need to spend some better time and money on development. The various Apple/Mac products has always had an over-emphasis on shiny GUIs and a lot of problems with poor design and some particularly hilarious bugs.

It is, right down to the metal, just a big iPod touch.

I have an iPod Touch (it was a Christmas gift, and I've never bothered with applications and all that crap for it), but I don't use any other Apple products. I love my laptop... slow and pathetic as it is, in its old age :D

I Wouldn't buy an iPad based solely on the fact that a 7 year old HP Tablet PC with Windows XP is actually better in every aspect (Specs, storage and multitasking).

oh and you don't need to jailbreak it xD

Besides with the HP Slate around the corner it doesn't make sense to buy an iPad
http://www.slashgear.com/hp-slate-gets-detailed-and-priced-thanks-to-hp-document-0580461/

Its each to there own in the end and I know some people will buy it, but I cant help feeling its a bit low and lazy that all there doing is super sizing the iPod touch / iPhone (3g version) and super sizing it and sending it back out.

I'd rather perform open-heart surgery on myself than enable OS fan control under Ubuntu.

And Ubuntu is the Special Olympics of *nix.

Would be nice if you could just use the computer you bought for anything you'd like. How long before you have to Jailbreak your Mac?

I bet Apple will soon copy Ubisoft's buisness plan.

Want to listen to music? Have to be connected to the internet for verification.
Want to watch a movie? Have to be connected to the internet for verification.
Want to play games? Have to be connected to the internet for verification.
Want to make a phone call? Have to be connected to the internet for verification.

To tell the truth even Apple fans were not thrilled with the release announcement either.

What about Coke versus Pepsi, McDonalds versus Burger King, Duracell versus Energizer, Heterosexuals versus Homosexuals (Oh yes, I went there!), Sega versus Nintendo (Nintendo won, Hah!), Marvel versus DC, Firefox versus Explorer, C++ versus Java, Ford versus General Motors?

Now I completely forgot what I was going to post about.
