The new iPhone Operating System iOS 4 has been released, and I've been trying to update my phone. The problem is it seems to take FOREVER to backup. I have a 8Gb 3G and to update you have to backup, wipe, update, and restore.

I set it running last night and left it for about 8-10 hours. The progress bar wasn't even at 10%

Keep in mind I've been trying for the past few days and the problem persists. It isn't the download, but the backup process.

Has anyone else run into this issue, and do you know a fix?

You fix it by buying a new phone.

Sorry.

I would probably wait a few more days to update your phone. The problem with a lot of Apple products (and admittedly most phones) is that the first few days are for teething. You wait for all the bugs to be reported and patched THEN update.

If all else fails, refer to above.

Mine took quite several hours too. And when I thought I was nearly done everything on my phone was being restored, which took a few more hours. Very tedious.

Not to mention I don't get to use the multi-tasking feature because I only have the 3G

Strange, not been given the update yet for my 8gig 3G.
It's there. Sync it with iTunes and press update. Well don't as it takes forever.

I've still got 10 Months left on the contract and it's cost over £160 to buy it out. No thanks. I'm fine with OS 3, but I'd like some of the new features of 4 (well the ones you can get on the 3G). I can't believe Scroll lock isn't on the 3G. WTF?

You're talking about the same company who released a phone then PATCHED it after they realised there are phones that are 10 years old that do things that their phone doesn't. I am not surprised that they're selling different features like that on different phones.
