If they're going to pay for the phone plan as well, go ahead and get the phone. If not, get the 360, the 360 is a one time expense (though if you want live I suppose that's another $50 a year), but the iPhone is the initial cost of the phone plus the expensive data plan that it requires to use. In the long run, it'd be much harder to pay for your iPhone, so if they're paying for the wireless plan as well, you'll be getting a much better deal with the phone. Save up for the 360 on your own, since, like I said, it's only a one time expense.
Don't get the iPhone, get an android phone, it's open source, has a large choice in models, can multitask, has a great UI and it's created by google.
As for whether you should get a phone or console, it depends on what you already have, if you have a phone/nintendo DS/PSP you probably don't need an iPhone, similarly if you have a PS3 or a good computer, you don't really need an xbox 360.

You could just get a 360 now, wait for the iPhone to inevitably become obsolete and buy it when it's cheaper?
