[sub]I've tried scouring the internet for this exact problem to no avail, so I thought I would turn to you guys, my trusted Escapist pallies.[/sub]

Basically, I have a 64GB iPod Touch. I was having problems with it syncing so I restored it by using the restore feature on my iPod. It's now telling me to connect it to iTunes. Nae bother, I think. I connect it and surprise, surprise, iTunes doesn't recognise it. It doesn't show up in My Computer, nor does it show up in iTunes.

I've got the latest version of iTunes and i've tried connecting it with EVERY SINGLE CABLE IN THE HOUSE. and I mean EVERY. that's about 6 cables. Not a single one made a difference.

Any suggestions on how to sort this out?

I need this as soon as possible because I'm going away tomorrow for a short university preview/course type thing, and I'll be spending 4 nights in an apartment by myself.

You try using a different USB port? Or test a friend's iPod to make sure the computer will actually recognize it?

Tried all three on my laptop. None of them make a different.

Just tried my sister's iPod. It recognises it fine.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Or else connecting it to another computer to see if it's the PC or the iPod?

It's the iPod, then. Did you try connecting it to your sister's computer? If it doesn't work then, then methinks your iPod is screwed.

Maybe I'm not understanding the problem, but is all your stuff still on your computer?

You may have to register it again, and that would be annoying, be it's better than nothing.

Pretend it's a new iPod and sync all the old stuff to it.

didn't you read the OP?
IT DOES NOT NOTICE THAT I'VE CONNECTED IT.
I can't do that. That's what I'd have to do if it was working properly, but IT ISN'T.
I'm trying to make it connect so i CAN register it again.

This happened to me once and here's how I fixed it. Make sure the iPod is NOT plugged in.

1. If you're on a Windows OS, go to CONTROL PANEL.

2. Open DEVICE MANAGER.

3. Under the VIEW drop down, choose SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES

4. Now, in the list of devices you see, expand the UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS section.

5. Hopefully, there should be a driver called APPLE MOBILE DEVICE USB DRIVER

6. Right-click on that driver and click UNINSTALL.

7. Once it it is uninstalled, plug the iPod in again, and hopefully this will fix the problem.

That's all I got. I hope you figure it out.

Well, I don't have an iPod touch, but my classic I've had problems like that with once or twice. I don't know how to reboot the touch, but I know the classic has a reboot function, and sometimes that helps. The other thing you could try, is letting it run out of batteries completely. For some reason, sometimes that helps when my classic is getting sketchy.

Oh, I didn't see that part, my eyes are a little blurry from earlier today.

I have no idea then. I have an iPod help guide, I'll look through that and get back to with any relevent information.

If it's not in Device Manager, your computer is not recognizing the driver for the ipod touch. You can attempt to put the ipod into forced recovery mode (which uses a different driver) which may let you get it hooked up (however, you'll have to restore it so make sure your stuff is in itunes since you'll lose it from the ipod).

To Force Recover:

Unplug the ipod from the computer and shut the ipod off. Once the ipod is off, hold down your Home button (white squared button) and plug it in, keeping that button held down. If successful (takes about 20 seconds), your ipod should show the "connect to itunes" symbol and a message will show up in itunes that says it's in force recovery mode and needs to restore. Restore it and then set it back up to sync.

EDIT: Not to ruin your day but chances are if it's not on any computers, this will not help and it needs to be replaced but it's worth a shot.

No problem, I work for tech support so it's kinda my thing...

As a heads-up though, you're not out of the woods until the restore actually works. After the restore, I'd recommend setting it up as a new ipod (it'll give you the chance to go from your backup). There might be something wrong in your backup and all it remembers are your settings and sometimes your notes, so if that's unimportant, do a new ipod.

By the way, did Apple Mobile Device show up under Device Manager?

Sneaky-Pie had it right...http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 However to see the Apple Mobile Device you need to plug in the IPOD to hear the boo-doom and then the you see it in the USB devices. Right click on it as it within Device Manager, should have a yellow warning triangle "!" next to it...update the driver via the internet. The update driver method took two times to get it to work. I was having NO problems for 8 months and then yesterday Windows 7 didn't recognize my 32G Ipod Touch 3g. Did not upgrade the touch to OS4.0 yet...but just installed Itunes 9.2. The computer just did a bunch of windows updates thought maybe that was involved.
