I would love to play as an actual underdog instead of oh noes everyone is against us but its ok we have better skillz and guns >.>MortisLegio said:That was actually a book. The story (if I remember correctly) is the war on terror isn't working so the US basically turns it's troops into what can be described as Helghast and proceed to conquer the world. I don't remember the name of the book but it was interesting.FelixG said:You know, I would think it would be awesome to set a near future series of games around America going imperialistic and starting a conquest of the world.RandV80 said:America is still the primary focus though where the usual other guys play the role of the villain. Considering the fiction you need to come up with to create these fictional wars to base the games around, America is as likely to be a 'bad guy' as the Russians or Chinese are. I'd be fascinated to see what the reception would be to a FPS game that set the Americans as the bad guy invaders who you are fighting for your freedom.FelixG said:considering that in CoD america spent the better part of three games getting their ass kicked and that it was an international team, with the principle badasses being englishmen, that pulled everyones asses out of the fire I think you are talking out your ass.Gearhead mk2 said:Speaking as an englishman, I am relieved and excited to see a first person game that isn't just another "USA r teh greetest" gunwank piece. I may buy it just for that.
Blackops was pretty "yay america!" but Blackops 2 is about 'merica getting their ass kicked again because of their own hubris and using so much automated war gear.
I say a series of games because I would love to play on both sides of the conflict. How many games let you play completely on the bad guys side? Normally they have crappy redemption storylines where the main character sees the error of his ways and joins the rebellion or whatever.
Another idea would be to release one game then release DLC campaigns like old expansion packs as the war progresses through the timeline.
OT: This looks pretty good. Not a pretty game but at least functional one.
I am American, and i think it sounds like an awesome game. I imagine the US annexing Canada, nuking China, and stomping around in power armor with 50's music blasting in the ba-MortisLegio said:That was actually a book. Sounds like our combined ideas would have made for a much more interesting story!Lugbzurg said:I actually thought it was going to say something about "pirates" as in "media thieves".Mumorpuger said:The misleading title had me expecting/hoping there was some sort of new steam gun that was about to meet some pirates.
To be fair, it looks almost EXACTLY like what I've come to expect from CoD. Without checking, I'd say that the character models are close enough to COD4 to not make a difference, but that the environment textures are noticeably more HL2. Not that bad for a studio that doesn't have the ridiculous sums of money their Western counterparts can afford to sling around.Woodsey said:(Also: this looks shit.)

It does look shit.Woodsey said:I don't know what you could possibly mean; North Korea uses only the finest military equipment whilst it's citizens dine on the finest caviar and salmon on the planet, as part of a leisurely brunch.

Oh sure, it's the most bog-standard gameplay and generic graphics - but it apparently sells really well, so if you're looking at getting the widest reach you aim for the lowest common denominator. Can't respect it, but it's worked for CoD so why shouldn't it be adopted by foreign devs looking to quickly make a splash?Woodsey said:Which is precisely why it looks shit.Wicky_42 said:To be fair, it looks almost EXACTLY like what I've come to expect from CoD. From the article: 'Still, it's interesting to see the shooter style reinterpreted for a market other than Western.'
It's not reinterpreted, it's copy-cat of something which is already shit. If they have to ape Western developers instead of presenting something which is obviously from a very different culture, at least pick something interesting.
