IRC

Hey all, I've recently been getting into IRC and would like to know. Are there any channels around that are fairly tolerent of new people? The ones I try to go on are normally just mass amounts of trolling or injokes among friends.

To keep up the discussion, does anyone else here use IRC on a regular basis, and has a few amusing anecdotes to share?

The Escapist has an IRC channel.

I've gone on a couple times, but it's not all that much fun for me.

I'd do it, but it appears to cost money, and have a free trial that I'd have to delete when done with.

What? No. IRC is free. It's like web browsers--IRC is just a protocol like HTTP, and there are tons of free clients out there. I used to use vIRC back in my big IRC days, but there are others out there if you search a bit.

Edited to add: There's even an add-on for Firefox if you don't want to use a separate program.
