Many people "pirate" music by receiving copies from friends, become fans of bands they would have otherwise never known and then go on to visit their shows and buy their albums.

The whole piracy discussion is a farce. You might as well call it "free publicity". Basically, it was just the record industry being complacent and not keeping up with the times, and blaming consumers for it.

it's nice they're making more this way, but correlation does not equal causation, and it's amazing that posters who would jump on the "video games don't lead to violence just because violent people like video games" train would be onboard here, too.

Honestly, they had me at "no Lars Ulrich."

This is ingenious but I wonder how well it would work for other bands.
It is Maiden after all. I'm not a huge metal fan but I'll go see a Maiden show. I've seen a hell of a lot of great bands play live and they're probably only second to Tom Waits in performance value.
But either way, good for them: Iron Maiden for the nice haul and Sao Paulo for getting a great show.

Good choice of pic btw, I remember seeing Eddie's head blow up...mindblowing...sorry.

Err, I hate to be grumpy about it again but, well...

So yeah, technically possible, but apparently plucked out of thin air. You can even go look at the revised article.

You want to know why they made loads of money, have loads of pirates and twitter followers there? Because anyone that knows anything about Iron Maiden will tell you that they're fucking huge in South America.

For once, just once, I fucking called it.
