Irony on the internet

Here's the situation. I posted this on some random topic:
Pirate the games. Fuck the makers, I say.
Result: Probation for propagating internet piracy.

Listen, I couldn't care less about getting warned on an internet forum if I tried, but was it really this hard to understand this was an ironic post? Nobody here knows me, but if you did, you'd know I'm very much against software piracy since I think it's disrespectful to the makers. Don't really care a lot for the legal issue, but I acknowledge and respect that, too.
I'd expect random 13-year-old internet addicts to not understand me, but people who are hired to take care people stick to the rules here?

I could bring up the "internet and sarcasm" topic, but it's been done to death and I don't think a lot of people would like to talk about it any more. If you do, though, be my guest. Otherwise just tell me if it really didn't come across and if I should have written:
"Pirate the games and fuck the makers. Their own damn fault for making a product one can steal so easily."

PS: I could have used this cool "dispute" option, but I think doing it publicly is much more fun. :D Besides, I know how this runs and would have never expected any result besides "Sorry, we can still not see any sarcasm in this, just live with it." Which I wouldn't blame anyone for.

Edit: Good night everybody. It's gonna be a long work day tomorrow. I'm making a film :) If you want to, I'll post a link of it just for you as soon as it's done.

Irony that is not, more like sarcasm.

If you think you're post is going to be misinterpreted then add /sarcasm.

I know it defeats th purpose of sarcasm but it keeps your arse out of the firing zone.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to tell when people are sarcastic on the internet. Meh.

As well, you've probably been here long enough to know that any advocation of piracy will instantly lead to a probation.

I got put on probation once because in response to a thread asking what everyone's favorite FPS was, I posted a picture of the cover art of TF2. The reason I got was something along the lines of "You didn't post any actual words. You can't just let a picture speak for you."

OK, so I suppose it would've been better if I'd posted simply "TF2, cause it's fun"? Really?

As a side note, I got about 6 people who quoted that picture and said something along the lines of "hell yeah!"

it's three days, complaining like this is frowned upon here, but i detected no sarcasm. on the internet the way you understand this is based on the reader you should of made it more clear of your intentions.

In my experience, I've learned to put a fake /sarcasm tag on the end of posts if that's what I'm trying to convey.

The problem with text-only communication is you have to work harder to convey sarcasm or irony, since the other party can't pick up on subtle hints like body language and tone of voice. I myself wouldn't know for sure if your post was serious or not in its form, because I've run across people who genuinely believe what you wrote.

It's always better to err on the side of caution in my opinion, even if the post loses some of its intended impact.

Probably a bit too subtle for the internet. written sarcasm needs a little bit more elaboration.
Had you tried "Pirate the games. Fuck the makers, I say. Its not like they had families to feed" i think some people would have gotten it.
