Would you think a lightsaber is a practical weapon? I think if I was in the Star Wars universe, I would personally use a rocket launcher or some other kind of heavy weapon since in a combat situation, I would probably have the range advantage.
Shame that only applies to only a few jedi, your average jedi is as squishy as you or me. You snipe them they die, plenty of regular jedi have been gunned down. A rocket, your average jedi can probably move the course abit, not a direct hit, but enough to cause some collateral damage. And since when did they fight conventional guns, the starwars universe is lasers, I'd put money that a Jedi, even a really powerful one wouldn't be able to stop any semi/automatic gun. Too many small parts moving at a ridiculous velocity.Angerwing said:In the hands of someone who can use it well, it's awesome. Also if they have the force. Seriously, facing a jedi, you can't shoot them with a rocket launcher (they force push it back), you can't snipe them (they dodge), and you can't shoot them with conventional guns (they deflect).

On topic thought, probably not. Unless like awsome117 said and you have force powers as well.
Actually they only work against laser blasts, a regular bullet would probably melt through the laser but thanks to the velocity, the wielder would get a face full of molten lead. So until all of the weapons are replaced by laser blasters, the lightsaber would do more harm than good even with a trained wielder.Angerwing said:In the hands of someone who can use it well, it's awesome. Pretty much my sentiments.Rednog said:Shame that only applies to only a few jedi, your average jedi is as squishy as you or me. You snipe them they die, plenty of regular jedi have been gunned down. I'm pretty sure trying to deflect a rocket with a lightsaber ends with a red splatter where a Jedi used to be (or perhaps a Jedi wannabe). Unlike the rocket launcher, a lightsaber needs no reload, but it also has no distance (unless you throw it with the Force). I agree that, in the hands of a Jedi, there is very little this sweet weapon can't do. In the Star Wars universe, though, if you are not trained in the ways of the Force you should just put the thing down before you hurt yourself. In that sense, on a grand scale, the weapon is impractical because it requires such extensive special training.BudZer said:Lightsabers can deflect blaster bolts and bullets as well as other lightsabers. So yes. On the issue of the rocket launcher, they can hit those back too, or at least they can in Star Wars Battlefront.
