If Anonymous reached its full potential... 100% membership, everyone in the world as part of anon, the world would be so great. Perfect, direct democracy. Such a thing has only been conceived of and marveled at by philosophers of old. However, we do not have the technology, yet. We need to decrease lag time for cross-planet communique, and make sure technology is available to everyone. Direct democracy as a hegemony is conceivable in no other way.

That said, it will not happen. Just won't. Anon only has as much power as the number of users it has, and it will never expand enough to topple governments (though it can help speed it along, see: Iran, Egypt) on its own. It's never a threat to the individual, and always a threat to the whole. It's the perfect check for companies and governments to not abuse the public, and being anonymous means no blackmailing of the union.

Okay, clearly I've said too much. TL;DNR version: yes, would be great, no, will never happen.

It seems that people still don't know the difference between Anonymous and /b/tards/4channers.

That said, it'd be great if Anonymous could come to power or at least have a larger influence in decisions that matter.

Anon isn't really a group. Its just a lot of people, a lot of little groups, doing their own thing. Thats all it was when they started the fight against $cilons anyway. Technically, they do rule the world because they aren't a group, they are just heaps of people with the same opinion, and when alot of people think alike things get done the way they want it to be done. i think thats called politics, but i'm stupid so i wouldn't know

The issue with this debate seems to be that people just assume that all people in anonomyous are..well.. retarded.

But i know people active on those boards who as far as i can tell are completely NORMAL.

Rule does admittedly seem like the wrong word. More life.. stop dictatorships?

No. They will not. No governments work that way, let alone a possible world government. You can't rule the world through the internet.

Seriously.

And Im not sure that its a bad thing, they generally seem to have a..balanced(?) moral compass. Sense of humor may be off, by they do seem to want to prevent gun shootings.

And they seem to be in the new more and more, though that just might be me.

Do you think they will? And is it a good thing?
Short answer: No.

Long answer: Not a Yahtzee joke, sorry.

Anyway, I have a doubt that such people would actually want to rule the world or have the actual skill-set to do so. To take over the world is no easy thing, and maintaining your power over it is harder. So no, I don't believe world domination is in the works.

I dont know if they will rule the world and i dont know if it would be a good thing, i like that they belive in power and knowledge to the people and other things they stand for.
Also i dont really mind there humour, when the Australian goverment lanched the "Cleen Feed" site (like we need our internet any slower then it is) Anonymous launched operation "Tit Storm" where they sent masses of porn to the site to crash it.
Oh yeah...they also helped tryed to help with the Wikileaks scandle.

No, they won't, and no, it wouldn't be a good thing. If a group like that were ever to get REAL power, they'd become just as, if not more corrupt, then the very groups they seek to combat.

At least were slightly stable, I mean as day to day life is. With Anon...don't think so. And even if they managed to get into the positions it would require we prolly wouldn't listen to them.

I was going to type just the word 'No.' but that would get me flagged for a low content post so I'm just going to type a few more sentences. How would you even think this would come about? What qualifies a bunch of close-minded basementdwellers to run our planet?
So a bunch of closed-minded mansion dwellers is vastly preferable, is what you're saying?

They would never be able to control anything larger than their individual back yards; even though they form a superintelligence, it's not centralized enough to administrate a nation with current sovereignty models. Which is to say, they would have to create their own legal construct from the ground up in order to maintain any semblance of control.

Anonymous? They don't want someone to rule our world, internet, or deny our right to know. They (or maybe i should say 'we', as 'we Internet') understand that anarchy is the only way for the Internet, and all the efforts to limit us here are assault that should be repelled with blow that will make other retarded shitheads think twice before trying to invade us on our land.

No. Anonymous is an expression of suppressed emotions. The absolute freedom from repercussion allows people to act as they wish, and this leads to them acting in ways they wish to but can't in normal society. Suppressed emotion (like being a dick to people) get vented in a relatively safe space. This is not conducive to an organized organization though. Ont op of that, anonymity prevents leadership since its hard to get behind a person when nobody knows who he is. To some extent without a leader no group can do great things because it simply lacks the structure and direction. They may have some power but they're not going anywhere.
