I have this wierd little thing where; I could be talking to someone for the first time. Or it could be one of my friends. And it'll be a great conversation...but in the midst of all the talking, they'll say something stupid or I'll do something stupid. We'll continue the conversation, but afterwards and for a very, very long time (if not for as long as I can remember), I'll remember that 1 stupid thing that happened. Not even all the good, but that one little bit of whatever was said. Is it just me who does this? Or does anybody else ever have this happen to them?

I always do but I dunno, I didn't think it counted as regret if you feel awkward after someone else says something.

I have a really bad habit about this, you just think, "Man, that was fucking retadred."
Exactly! That's the same thing I think to myself after one of those moments.

Plenty of times, I was talking to my flatmates about finding a new place to live yesterday, we were discussing who would get which room in the house we've chosen, and I came up with a suggestion that was actually really stupid. The others forgot it but I was thinking about it for the rest of the night.

since i'm still working on the brain-mouth-thingie i usually tell people that whatever they did/said was extremely stupid. that kind of prevents the awkward situation but it tends to offend a lot of people as well...

Yeah, it happens to me a bunch. Usually awkward moments from days back in high school or something where I'll literally feel like an ass right there in that moment I think about it. However, I tell myself that literally nobody else would remember that and then I feel better about it. I only remember it because it happened to me, but nobody else will. They'll just remember the stuff that happened to them and so on and so forth.

Yep, very normal to me.

Its kinda sad so sometimes we remember something like that and keep thinking about it even though no one you said it in front of even remembers it.

Oh yeah, all the time. Not so much with my mates, as they'll just roll with it, and we'll turn it into a movie or something equally silly, and be giggling for ages. But with people I'm meeting for the first time, or with girls... god. I feel like such a twat, and I can't shake the feeling. I remember it for years and years later. It hurts to think about it... I hate it when I do crap like that. It burns me inside man, burning like a flaming... toilet store.

Oh crap.

I said, after me and one of my mates were discussing headbutts:

Her, after putting on motorcycle-helmet: I'll do a headbutt like this.
Me: I'll arrange a fit with Soren.
Her: Haha sure.
Me: He won't feel the pain in that thick head of his.

My mate Soren was also there, and took offense as he is slighty(only slighty) overweight. I said it in a good an playful tone, but I knew the moment I said it that it was retarded.

Soren shakes head in disappointment, obviously a little hurt.
Me: No no, I meant thick skull. *Signals this by "knocking" on my own head*
Her: Haha nice save.
Soren who was standing around waiting for us, just left and went outside.

Shit comment, I went to apologize though: Soren takes everything so very personally though, so I'm still regretting it, knowing that he will act like a ***** tomorrow and annoy me as revenge. He's such a girl when it comes to that, no offense intended.

This happens to me almost too many times to mention...

It's just a part of socialising, I guess. It's bound to happen with spontaneous speech, the phrase 'It seemed like a good idea at the time' springs to mind...

Happens to the best of us mate, I wouldn't worry about it.

As a matter of fact, I feel like an ass after pretty much every conversation I have.

Yeah that does happen to me, but its not so much something I'll say (though it often is). It can often be something I've done or should've done. Being the insecure person I am I often tend to kick myself down a peg years later as I remember those times even though no one else does. You just have to realise that the people involved have moved on and they only person who thinks bad of you for doing or saying it is you.

Dude, this happened to me, not in a conversation, but through a team-building exercise a few years back for rugby. We got the girl's and guy's teams together, and were practicing tackling (not a good idea to put a group of guys with a group of girls), and I totally decked this girl, flipped her over flat onto her back. Now every time I strike up a conversation with her, I always think of if she remembers that and how terrible of a person she must think me.
