Think about it. We are evolved from the apes, which is why we get hair on our arms, legs, head etc. And it's why we get goose bumps. (that your stands up when you're cold is a natural reaction among animals to try to get warmer). So, if we evolved by growing less hair than monkeys, will the next step in evolution be baldness? To not have any hair at all?
Actually if I remember correctly, we have more hair than monkeys, though ours is much thinner so it appears they're hairier.

Next step in evolution hopefully is evolving beyond ignorance and foolishness.
Beginning to fear the fact that no matter how far we advance as a species, there will always be an idiot?

I don't know that complete baldness is the next step, as hair around your more sensative areas actually serves a purpose, but losing hair on our heads could be. Loosing our pinky toe would make a bit more sense though.

Nope. I don't see many guys with pernicious alopecia siring hordes of little hairless children just yet.

Baldness is one of the symptoms of testosterone's effects on the body (more accurately, the hair follicles on the head). which is why baldness is a lot more common among men than women. (men having higher levels of the testosterone hormone than women do).

Testosterone has been around even since the very first men walked the earth, as has male baldness during higher ages (even monkeys show signs of thinner fur when they are really old). So I doubt it would be a sign of a next evolutionary step.

One thing I know for certain though: If I were to start growing bald, I'd just shave all my hair on the head off. There's nothing more sad and pathetic than the dreaded "comb-over" or getting hair transplants. I prefer ageing with some dignity...

Anyway, that aside, I was kind of hoping the next step would be keener hearing. Baldness though... I kind of like my hair... No thanks.

we need hair to conserve heat. We lose a large percentage of our body heat from our heads and it would require a lot more energy to keep a bald head warm than a hairy one.
