Alright so I got a voice mail from my local video store today -Movie Gallery in Michigan- around 10:30am while at school informing me that within the next 7 days I can claim a free rental.

Now since I'm piss poor from buying MW2 and dont really have a healthy selection of games for my PS3; I was thinking about whether or not Borderlands was worth using this free rental option on.

I like the idea of the graphics, the fact that you'll never collect every single gun that's incorporated into the game itself without sitting in a bean bag chair eating cheetos naked for the rest of your life kinda gets my attention.

And I really like cheetos

Is there any other games if you guys think Borderlands would not be an ideal choice? I know this is a matter of opinion whether or not to rent it, but I'd like to remind you that its free to get.

If you rent it for free, you will end up buying it, for money.

Just a warning.

Agreed just wait untill you get the money to buy it and rent another game because borderlands is just one of those games that's REALLY addicting (espically when playing it Co-op)

Ya I rented it a week after launch (believe it or not I couldn't and still can't buy a god damn copy from any local store). I still have it a month or so later. BB is probably pissed with me (but can't say a word since I am on a monthly game rental pass).

I would say, yes, rent it first, it's not exactly what you might expect, but it is addictive as hell. If you're an old school diablo junkie, then don't bother renting.

Diablo was nice, wasnt a big fan of it; waiting for Diablo 3 whenever thats supposed to come out.

Question: Did Fallout 3 give birth to Borderlands gameplay wise?

If so I'll like it.

No it did not. Fallout 3 has that boring pipboy gameplay where you pause every other shot to aim specifically at one point on the body. It was alright but never felt like a shooter. Borderlands does FPS really really well. It feels a bit clunky at the beginning because your guns are not great but once you start leveling up and getting good weapons it becomes a very good shooter. This game is totally different than FO3. Borderlands is a frantic shooter with some RPG elements thrown in and a whole shit ton of loot. Think more MW with Diablo mixed together. Never mention Fallout 3 and Borderlands in the same sentence again.

If you're that poor, then renting it will be fine as long as you're willing to dedicate your entire week to playing it. I bought it on a whim, and I ended up doing nothing for a week straight but play Borderlands. Thankfully it's out of my system now, but I'll probably pick it up again once I get bored of MW2.

Borderlands is a definite buy. You won't get the experience of it through renting.... I would recommend renting Brutal Legend or Uncharted 2, as those games are short enough for you to get the single player campaign experience and both of their multiplayer experiences are average at best.

Nah, it's too long. Rents are for short games, you'd have been better off buying borderlands and renting MW2.

Not really.. While they both appear post-apocalyptic, Borderlands actually takes place on another planet altogether. That being said, it does look desolate like in Fallout.. Gameplay differs though, in that borderlands combat is much more high-paced. It has a much stronger focus on the action. Its got RPG elements in that you specialize your chosen character/class, but there really is no noticeable storyline so much as a light justification to shoot and blow shit up.

Its awesome.

Get bored of MW2? I put it down once in a while, but never get bored of it. From what you guys have been saying Borderlands is highly addictive? Always like Batman: AA on the first run through.

Arkham Asylum is a good game, but the boss fights are pretty weak

I'd say it's definitely worth a rental. Assuming your rental place of choice allows you a week of play, you can probably complete the game and earn most of the achievements before it's due back.

If you tend to be obsessive about this kind of game, though, you may realize that you need to purchase it. In a week, you could beat the game, get the achievements and hit the level cap for one character... But there's still three others available to max out, if that's your kind of thing, and that could take much longer than just a week.

Imagine Fallout 3's combat system except less slow and clunky, but without V.A.T.S.
