Is Catherine any good?

Yeah, I'm curious too. And I want to hear from people who aren't die-hard JRPG fans, since those are the types that tend to like it.

Catherine strikes me as a dressed up dating sim, but I've been wrong before, so someone please enlighten me.

Well, I like JRPGs, but I wouldn't call myself diehard, as I only play 1-2 of them a year.

I like it. The climbing gameplay is actually real intense and fun, and not too hard if you use the undo button a lot, since it rewinds the "time limit", too.

The story is pretty good, but you have to suspend disbelief a fair bit and just accept that a lot of things go unexplained. It's a good story, but I wouldn't call it "immersive".

Japanese games aren't really into lore and...logic...even.

if you played older Atlus megaten games and or are into mythic gods and creatures there's nice a bit of lore in Catherine.

Also play the game or watch an LP to see how the story unfolds to tie up all the lore.

Decent gameplay and an excellent soundtrack.

The story would be good if I could find any reason to care about anyone in it. Don't know why, just didn't.

That being said, the story is endearing and beside some weird quirk, the characters are all relatable and feel 'real' - which is something I haven't been able to say about pretty much any jrpg character in the history of forever.

The gameplay is crazy addictive and challenging too. And I'm normally a big puzzle fan.

Reading such praise is no surprise given how this is the same team that did Persona 3 and 4. A big compliment that P4 got was how "real" and likable the main cast was as the story emphasized the character's psychological growth as well as how they masked their inner flaws. Basing the game off of a man with commitment issues does seem like a storyline those guys would do.

I think this game is getting called a 'JRPG' far too much...because it really isn't.

It's more a J-Puzzle-Dating-Sim...thing.

Good game, really weird, but fun.

Definately worth a purchase if you like puzzles, its a real thinking game and the plot isn't too bad either, kind of annoying because I think it really had potential as a psychological film, hollywood, take note! No more Saws please!
