I'm from the UK and in a matter of months I'll be starting college. I hated school, it was a chav infested dump. No-body even played videogames. So, is college any better? I really don't fancy start School MK II.

More Freedom, but not necessarily better.
Theres alot more pressure, and alot more studying needs to take place.
But then again, I'm only in High School, so I really woulden't know :D

From my experience, yes. I enjoy being more independent, and following my own schedule(kind of). You meet many more people that share the same interests, and they all want to better themselves. Not only that, but most of the people at college are MUCH more mature.

It dpends which one you go to. It took me three times before i found a college with people that were not bastards and courses that i wanted to do.
If you find the right place you will have the time of your life. Trust me

Yes. People are older so chavs are in minority numbers. If your doing an IT course I'm sure there will be gamers, we got a LAN party going from my old class with about 10 to 15 people.

Except it was totally more laid back than school and I did NO work and cocked about.

This however is just my experience, yours will be different. Don't blame me if you run in with a DnD table and get knifed.

If your taking a subject you love then, yeah, it's miles better.

I took art as college and I have to say I've never been more happy to get up on monday morning. Even on the bad days my lessons are miles better than anything I ever did at school. The people are also a lot nicer. Chances are any chavs that turn up in your class (of which there will be few) will be squeezed out in the first week or so, either because the tutors just won't put up with them or they give up.

College is a blast. It's hard work, but if your doing something you love the rewards are much greater.

Short answer. yes

I went through 2 years of college and got good A levels. Yes its a more mature setting and yeah theres more freedom too; as well as the EMA allowance possibilities. but college doesnt solve your chav issues, if anything it multiplies them

I'm actually going to be doing my GCSE's in college. It's a long story. Will this have any effect?

It really is better, i hated school as well. I left ages ago but it was also filled with chavs (neds) who only cared about drink. In college i made friends with the same interests, (films, games etc) The lecturers treat you like an adult, no more "sir" or "miss". You are on first name terms. You can learn about what interests you obviously. There are still neds and chavs, but they are totally outnumbered by the more mature people.

Ok, from your statement I can take a rough guess at the kind of person you are, and will say that the chavs will thin out considerably in college, but it's very area dependent, I'm from the South-West and it wasn't bad at my school, but you never know. I don't think college is a prerequisite for more enjoyment of video games though, I'd keep that quiet until you find some kindred spirits who bring it up in conversation, because the girls get a lot more discerning and unless you are incredibly lucky, "video-game enthusiast" does not tend to feature highly in the attraction heirarchy. Just try to enjoy it, it's far more interesting academially but the pressure is very much on compared to Years 10 and 11...

That's because half the people who are immature in high school get weeded out before college. Once the remaining 50% get in to college they either become the outcasts that they ridiculed and harassed in high school, or they assimilate.

This, you can do what you want. But what you want is to do good in your classes. So on the hole its pretty much the same, but in a more mature manner.

However being able to have a job and a social life that isn't centered around your school is rather nice.

If you were doing your A levels in college, you could expect the pressure to ramp up significantly.

However, since for some unspecified reason you're doing your GCSE's in college instead, it'll be just like school really, a slightly different environment, but essentially the same thing with different people, some of whom you'll like, some you wont...

Well, I'm in the same position as you, I'm starting college in September and I have no idea what it will be like. Although my brother has told me it is a lot more relaxed and laid back than school, if that helps. What I was worrying about more was choosing a college where my friends are going, or thinking more about my education, but, I've made my decision now...

College is million times better than school, just don't do 6th form. I found that with my college course it was easy to find where I was going (spent all day in the same room) :)

The qualification you get is simple and easy.

I would say yes. because your amongst people who are mature and you meet people of the same interests as you. Also there is no segrigation of jocks, nerds, goth, princesses...etc.

Man that was annoying.

People will still be dicks, but you have more freedom to get away from said dicks and be with people you like.

College is like grade school, but there's more (usually) work and (usually) more freedom, so make of it what you will.

Yes, you'll love it, I know where you're coming from having being part of that "normal" little niché by the end of y11.

Although everyone seemed to be bitching and backstabbing by the end of A2. Hmmmm... bring on Uni.
