I've been playing fallout new vegas with the new patch and its been working pretty well, but now that Dead Money's out, I am reluctent to get it for fear that the new bugs that are sure to come with it. Regardless, I'm nearing lvl. 30 and I want to get the additional bonus 5 levels even if it turns out tehre's too many bugs in the siera madre's storyline. So has anyone on the Escapist bought the new DLC and is it worth the trouble and even if it is, is that trouble JUST in the Sierra Madre, or does it transfer over to the Mojave?

if you REALLY want more new vegas desperately, then i suppose so. Otherwise it's not that great. And on hardcore it's a freakin annoying

Edit: yes it takes place enitrely surrounding the sierre madre

BEEP ... BEEP ... BEEP ... BEEP BEEP BEE BEE BEE BEE BEBEBEBEBEBBEBEBBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE- SPLODGE

If that appeals to you, you'll love Dead Money.

Honestly though... it is really good but slightly ruined by the frustrating collar mechanic.

If you really enjoy Fallout New Vegas then yes.

I loved it and it was well worth 800msp for me.

The trouble is only in the Sierra Madre.

I didn't encounter any bugs at all...

I found it to be very worth it. I had very little trouble staying alive on Hardcore mode and the new guns are satisfying.

The story wasn't hugely interesting, here's a casino, break into it, then you do. The characters are great, the three new companions were very entertaining.

Ok then. I'll give it a shot. None of the bugs in Fallout 3's DLC made it into the main game. Except for Broken Steal obviously so I'd assume the same for FNV. Hopefully theres no bugs. Thats the only thing I'm really worried about plus I probably wont even get into the Sierra Madre before a patch comes out, havent even finished the second act of the main story.

Doesn't sound like its worth the $10. I'll be wait till it goes on sale, or is bundled with other dlc.

It's fun, the story's interesting, but the whole collar thing is just a pain in the ass.
And the ridiculous amount of bear traps.

But when you're a higher level and you're looking for a challenge, it's good to play.

It was worth the 800 MSP, easily. And I haven't even completed it yet.

Just look out for a bug at the very beginning that I'm having a problem with: the game pretty much freezes before you get out of the initial dialogue. I haven't heard of anyone else having the issue, but I'm looking for a way around it. Just a heads-up, in case it does happen.

I love the the collar mechanic, it's like i'm in Battle Royale... Just with less rape XD

I also spent the entire DLC running from all holograms thinking they were unkillable... Forgeting that a gun called the HOLO RIFLE (imagine that in 50 foot high gold letters) would actually kill them.

Its ok.

Its buggy as hell; just like Vanilla NV is.

Its also chock-full of shitty mechanics, like the bomb collar and HUNDREDS of traps, stupidly resilient and perceptive enemies (they will detect you through 3 walls in Sneak even if you have a Stealth Boy with 100 Sneak Skill), and some poor, only-way-to-get-by-is-to-be-in-the-mind-of-the-dev level design.

The story and characters are pretty interesting though.

The rewards are okay. You can get a unique Assassin's Suit; the Automatic Rifle, which is basically an Assault Rifle that fires .308 caliber bullets, a Gauss Rifle, a nice dress for ladies (Veronica loves it), the Holorifle, and some Gold. However, the Gold is fairly useless, since it weighs so much that its almost impossible to leave with it all, and almost no vendors except the Gun Runners can even afford to pay you for a single bar of gold, much less all of it.

I never found quite so many bugs with it. But I did think that it was a wonderful DLC. Just, overall coolness. Lots of neat things. One weird-ass plot.

I had a lot of fun, and you might too, if you dig the surreal. Go get it if you liked New Vegas.

I bought, played, and finished it.

AND LOVED IT.

It's definitely worth the money, and I don't think I saw one bug. It was extremely interesting and exciting, and the collar mechanics that everyone seems to be complaining about added to the experience in my opinion. The companions are also a high point of the DLC. However, if you are level 30 and not on Hardcore, then it might be too easy, as I played on Normal at level 15 and found it challenging, but nowhere near impossible.

the foreshadowing was awesome and the ghost people were probably the coolest enemy in all of new vegas

I enjoyed it. Not sure if I enjoyed it $10 worth.

To put this in perspective, I very rarely buy DLC because it is usually not worth it. How did our industry come to this? Fifteen bucks for a handful of maps and an extra gun? Developers used to GIVE this to us. They used to give us the tools to make them ourselves.
I need to build a gaming PC and stop playing console games...

Just out of curiosity, does it take place after then ending of NV? I'm wondering if I should keep my pre-last mission save for it, or what?

You need the pre-last mission save because NV ends after it (no more playing), so that's only way to play the DLC.

I beat it on hardcore at around lvl 30. It's pretty fun and the prospect of looting a crazy abandoned casino from another time, plus good character dialogue is enough to keep it interesting. I recommend having a high survival, melee and speech skill and high strength (it helps, although it isn't unnecessary)

Not really. It's basically a couple hours running around doing tedious tasks. Then finding companions, then going to the casino. It's really boring but nothing new from Fallout DLC.

Ahh, thank you.
