So Dead Space is 75% off today. That makes it about what, 500$? I'm not good with the conversions. Thing is, I could get it for 4 European coins.

So I've read a lot of people don't like it that much (our very Yahtzee among them), but I'd like to know what do you think of it. How would you define it? Is it scary? Immersive? Frantic? Interesting? And most of all, is it worth the price, even being 75% off? I know it's dirt cheap, but on the other hand hey, I can get a pack of smokes for the same price.

So I'll appreciate your insight and advice. Thanks!

Oh oh oh and by the way, go check out metacritic's summary of DS for the iPhone. [http://www.metacritic.com/game/ios/dead-space] No, really: go check it out. I've laughed pretty hard at the copy-paste description from the apple store, complete with links to other games' trailers.

Yeah definitely worth it, despite what Yahtzee says you'll have fun and it'll lead you into the sequel which is great as well and fixes the issues Yahtzee mentioned.

It's worth that at least. The only irritating thing about it is the cam. But that is tolerable.

Yes. There is nothing to add other than yes but since I must. It is like Res 5 a good action game with zombie type creatures(although to get technical in Res 5 they are not zombies in modern sense but in original sense of the word). Yes it is a bit immersive and frantic and certainly interesting.

Please don't take Yahtzee seriusly when it comes to choosing wich game you want to play.

(I never played Dead Space, but my friends really liked it)

As someone who sees Dead Space as everything that could go wrong with a horror game, I'd say: definetly buy it. Don't expect a horror game, though, expect something like a Resident Evil 4 with less action (and even less horror, if that's even possible) and a shooter that, for once, encourages you to not shoot em in the head. Fun stuff, and one of the bossfights (I think Yahtzee mentioned it in his review but I can't remember) is fucking amazing.

I'd say yes, but I'm not getting it. Frankly I want it on the PS3 over the PC. Trophies just seem like a more fun system than Steam achievements.

If it keeps you from smoking then I say yes.
I suggest waiting for one of the deals later this week if not.

For $4? I'd say so. If you don't find it scary, at least your got a rather interesting dismemberment based shooter on the cheap.

I bought it for my PS3 2 days ago, and I'd say yes, it is worth it. It's a good game, certainly worth the £10 I payed for it. It's not scary, but there are plenty of 'make you jump out of your skin' moments.

I especially love the HUD, i.e. your health is displayed on your suit and your ammo is on your gun. Makes a nice change.

Well... it's nothing special, but if you're in the moody for a mildly fun action game that has pretensions to horror, then go for it.

It's pretty hard to go wrong at that price.

It's less than the price of a Big Mac meal, course it's worth it.

At that price, yes.

Just keep in mind that it's more or less Resident Evil in space. Not the newer ones with the over the shoulder shooting, the older ones where the main character moved with leg shaped tank treads and dramatic fixed camera angles. You've even got cheesy "tense" music to alert you when something is within a million miles of you and jack in the box scares.

It's a fantastic shooter. As a horror game it's more a B-movie "so bad it's good" kind of thing but it's a fun little shooter with a nice gameplay length and a few nice innovations.

I picked it up a while ago on a steam sale without knowing anything about the Dead Space games and was pleasantly surprised, although expect all horror aspects to wear thin after about 10 minutes, it's a bad horror game but it's a great action game (IMO anyway).

Yes, the HUD looks cool, and works well from a gameplay point of view.

But when you think about it, you realise how bloody stupid it is to have a health gauge running down your spine... What if you're not being controlled by a disembodied camera hovering over your shoulder? :)
