Now I've been a fan of Egosoft's flagship franchise the X series for some time. (found a copy of X3 Reunion 2.0 in a barging bin at my local video rental store, that is still open by the way). Now I've got every game in the 'actual' X franchise, and I want to know: Is Egosoft over?
I mean, they used to make their profitable but small games in the form of the main X games, have small, rough around the edges games that knew who they where for and for those who loved it, really loved it.
Now look: they took 7 years to develop 1 game (longer then any other they have) that was bigger then anything they ever did, and instead of making it a proper reboot (where the old audience stays and a new one if brought it), they instead did everything wrong one can do with a reboot (alienate the old audience while not attracting a new one).
Given how few copies sold and how many of those few got returned, there's a very real possibility of Ego going under. So, you guys think that's the case? And if so, you think whichever company will buy its IP will continue the X games or put them on a shelf?
