This thread is so dumb... Is gaming dead? It has never been as popular or reached a larger audience.

What about the lack of innovation? Have you seen the mobile market.

I think what the OP was asking really was about 'traditional gaming', you know consoles etc. And in that case yes there are issues with the amount of FPS's etc. And yes it may well be that 'traditional gaming' might be in a decline, but gaming overall, never been healthier.
Thats actually bullshit too.

You know the RPG genre? The one that is apparently dying in the next year according to most people?

People were speculating about the death of the genre a year after Planescape Torment came out. Thats a long time ago. And it is still going strong.
Don't get your point, as it seems to agree with mine that rumours of death of gaming are overstated. As I said the only thing that might not be doing well is 'traditional gaming', but a put a big may in there as I don't believe those reports either.

There is so much good stuff coming out, you just have to look, I just found another space dogfight indie game for $10 bucks and i literally want the new Deus Ex so bad I find it physically painful. Also by literally I mean figuratively but you get the idea.
there has always been crap on the market, and a wise man once said you need to dig through the crap to find a kernel of goodness.
If you think gaming is dead your standards are too high.

While I agree that the market has grown stale from:
Clones,
Re-hashes,
Ports,
and the exact same game released (I'm looking at you Halo and CoD)

I do not think that gaming is dead.
I really do enjoy the indie market because it isn't full of large companies that don't care about their customers.
Some companies don't understand that by taking the easy path and getting a dollar now they are sacrificing 5 dollars latter down the line.

Also I think the indie market is actually gaining influence right now...
I haven't really seen any indie games that cloned another, most of them are new and fresh ideas and it's nice to have a taste of that for a change.

I think I've read about four or five posts by retyopy that just piss everyone off and jet everyone on his ass. Good. Let him take it, he's obviously a masochist.

That aside, I'd like to say that these are just like college students learning about communism, or posters saying "humanity sucks" when someone doesn't put a buck in their tip jar. If you've no mind or vision to see upcoming, innovative games like "From Dust", or to appreciate these so-called "clones" just because they're popular, then you sir, are a hipster.

Look at the evidence. You have the ravenous COD fans, sure they can get annoying. But even worse are people being anti-conformist just for the sake of being anti-conformist. If everyone else likes it, they don't.

Again with this? Yeah, if you only look at military shooters then the industry is dead. If you only look at two publishers, then yeah, it's dead. But if you spend more than 30 seconds looking through trailers and stuff, you'll realize it's actually pretty alive. SR3, skyrim, prey 2, never-dead (Seriously, a game where you could get a leg blown off but not die and nobody mentions it here? I am disappoint), Prototype 2, Infamous 2, XBLA games, all the sandbox games out now, all the great releases set for the future, freeware games, and flash games. Gaming is further from dead than it's ever been. Just ignore the generic shooters if you don't want to piss yourself off.

If you only want to look at AAA releases, then you will only find the stale cash cows of sequels and clones. The same is true of any medium.

But, if you want to do a little work for your pleasure, there are literally millions of indie games out there, and thousands from mid tier developers.

Gaming is only dead if you look at the headlines.

Just like by looking at the headlines of a newspaper, you would think the world was in flames.

If you look for yourself, you will see the truth. It's not great, but it sure as hell isn't dead.

One of the best years gaming has had in awhile in my opinion, not even close to death.

I mean Skyrim, Guild Wars 2, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Bastion and Minecraft's full release. Battlefield 3 as well, but thanks to Origin I'm on the fence now.

As well as that, a new Counter Strike being announced amongst other things, I think it's all beginning to pick up somewhat in fact.

Just look at the new games coming out. A Halo clone, a God of War clone, a Call of Duty clone, and countless sequels. The indie game market seems to be the only place with orginal games, and that's dying too, because more and more clones are coming out to capitalize on the succes of other games. (I'm looking at you, fortresscraft! And a ton of zombie games that are somehow released on the indie market, my other eye is on you!)

So is gaming dead?
No, but you my friend are pretty clearly trying to get a job at a Sensationalist Tabloid newspaper. I've heard of these guys called the Evening Standard......

They had this article called "Are ALL of Britain's youths Demon-spawns?", because a small number of British kids smashed stores and lit up some houses. And I was like, "Just because a few kids are bad doesn't mean the entire generation is worthless..."

What? Of course not.

The FPS market was dead for a fair while but it's starting to have a good resurgence with Deus Ex, Serious Sam 3 etc.

Besides if Hideo Kojima, Shinji Mikami, Tim Schafer, Suda 51, Atlus and many others are still kicking about then I think gaming should be more than fine in future.

How has the game market changed? They copy what's popular. This happened on every console generation. It'll top off an other things will be made till the NEXT popular thing gets done.

Are people still buying the sequels and clones? Yes they are. As long as that happens gaming will not be dead, you can't call something dead if MILLIONS of people are still doing it.

Theres enough older good games to play till i die. Gaming isnt(or not at all) just about playing the new stuff.

You know every time i see this thread i laugh my ass off cause i know the person who made it only plays three types of games and only about 6-7 AAA games that fallow that style.

No, but most the company's are running out of ideas, they just need time to come up with new ideas...like Hollywood.
