Said the OP, to a community of enthusiastic gamers.

Ofcourse it's "OK" to be a gamer. You do what you want, and don't let people surpress that.

Thread resurrection for the win. Yes... It's OK to be a gamer, it's more than bloody well OK. I'm not a social cripple, I have lots of friends who I see outside of school on a regular basis; I'm a gamer through and through though. In my spare time I'm either gaming, playing guitar, listening to music (although that ties in with every other activity) or hanging out with friends. I enjoy my life, and I don't give a fuck what anyone says, because if they're low enough to criticize me on no basis, I'm better than them.

Anyone who thinks that spending most of your time on video games is not worth the effort just hasn't met the right video game yet.

No. It's okay to be a gamer. I know bunch in my school who are gamers and are still really social and popular. Not me, but that has nothing to with gaming. There are other reasons that I'm unpopular. But gaming is just a fun thing to do, like anything else.

First of all, i think gamers should be oficcially renamed bedroom people, sounds sexy.

Secondly, i think it's very stereotyping stupid to split people into two groups of
Handsome, spunky hunky, well-trained drug-addicted party monkeys
Nerdy unatractive weak gamers bedroom people

Shit far from every non-gamer-bedroom person i know is all (if any) of the above, and none of the gamers i know (myself included) fit yoru description of gamers bedroom people.

I might not be buff like Edward norton in American history X, but i'm not skinny lik ehe was in figth club either. I go to parties (got one coming up tonight for instance) I drink, and smoke weed once in a while (and according to previous threads, so does over half of the escapist)

Well, I already have a life, and I play games, so I guess I'm OK. :D

I don't really see a problem with games. They can only be a problem if you let them be, and then that isn't the games fault, it is your own.

Besides, they are fun. I really don't care that Obama is mad because I play Pokemon and Rock Band in my down time. I'm having fun. As long as you don't make gaming the most important thing in your life, you should be fine.

People play games to fill the time. People watch films and that's acceptable, so games should be as well. The only difference is games are more pro-active. Sorta.

Definitley not. They should all be shot. Without a trial or second thought.

OnT: Words like "Alright", "Good" or "Bad" are relative, it depends on who you ask.
I for one don't think it's that bad, but it's never good to let something go too far.
Get outside once in a while.

I would say it's okay to be a gamer, but not on the basis that "if you're ugly, you should stay out of sight." I would love to see a society where being ugly is not the primary factor people judge you on. I've seen lots of beautiful gamers, and lots of hideous trainwrecks. And everybody has a talent beyond being an awesome gamer. Being a gamer might even hone those skills, but you still have to make time for real life.
I'm a hideous gamer, who stays out of sight, despite being physically attractive (alright... gorgeous).

It is OK for anyone to be a gamer regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or appearance.

It is just that most beautiful people usually have a reason to go out and socialise. I don't.

I despise humanity...

Eurgh, I hate it when people say this. You are not insane, and it isn't cool to be insane. If you've ever met an insane person, or even read about the effects and whatnot enough you'd know that.
I second this statement

OT: let me answer that question with a question of my own:

IS IT OKAY NOT TO BE A GAMER?

Excuse me?

OT: The people around here that you would call 'Attractive people' are not the type of people I like to be around. I stay in my select group of friends and leave the others to their raves and whatnot.

The gaming community has changed, no longer is it just nerds and ppl who have never gotten laid playing games, gaming has become more casual and plenty of ppl that have perfectly functional social lives play video games, so yes it is ok to be a gamer

Exactly this. Either way, why care if it's OK to be a gamer. I say people should be whatever they want to be.
Most people would consider me a gamer and no one I know has any sort of problem with it.
