Do you think it's possible for a game to be well-designed and completely functional but just not very fun to play?

I remember watching a video review for a game a while ago. The reviewer praised the mechanics and the design saying it was extremely well made and polished, but he said the game unfortunately wasn't very fun.

Logically, I think "most" games can be considered "perfectly designed" but the fun-factor completely depends on the player.

Mass Effect is this way to me. I mean, it's decent but nothing to write home about.
You are the first person i have ever met who has shared my opinion on mass effect. =o

I basically just see it as a well made game that is kind of dull to play really.

Yes I do. Looking at games like Baldur's Gate and the first two Fallouts, they are fairly well-designed and completely functional, but when I try to play them I begin to think about how much more fun hanging myself would be.

The vehicle missions really killed it a bit too. I haven't finished it, but I will eventually.

I'll have to agree with the guy who said Mass Effect.

Game's just fine and all but I thought it was boring as all hell.
