Why is it so hard to make a good Movie based on a video game?

Right, and most people agree that movies based on games are truly lacking, for the most part. So, back to the original question, why can't they make them GOOD?

Aside from what everyone else have said, I think it's in part due to the fact that most video games have horrible plots, even the games we usually refer to as "great" story wise, usually comes of as tired and clichéd when compared to works in other media.

it isnt. its just that people hardly ever TRY to make a good movie out of a game. why put in the effort when you know people will spend their money on it anyway?
