I dont think its wrong but it is a bad idea to let a dog sleep in the same bed mostly because when they get older they might start to lose control of there bowls and accedently well pee or poo in your bed they can also track alot of dirt and such into your bed but honestly outside that I really never saw the issue

It's not unhealthy to cook food for your pet.
Personally I don't do it either for my tomcat but my uncle has dogs and trained dogs for years and he cooked the food for them as it was cheaper than expensive special food where you don't have all these additives.
As a result they were/are some of the healthiest dogs I ever met with super nice fur.
No its not natural or good for them.
that really depends on what your cooking

Wait, industrial made food is more natural then - please explain why self cooked food isn't good?
Who said industrial food is better or more natural?
So no self-cooked food, nor industrial made....that only leaves one option - everyone should have a pack of dogs and let them do the hunting in your own little forest, because they aren't that successful if they have to hunt by themselves.

[/sarcasm off]

Could you at least give some reason, you just come in and say 'nay' and that's it...

It's not the healthiest thing you can do, especially if the dog in question is an outside dog.
So there is such a thing as an indoor dog?

OnTopic: I see nothing wrong with sharing your bed with the dog. Also cooking for your dog is not that wierd, perhaps it's cheaper of healthier than some dogfood and it's easier to regulate what the dog eats

While in terms of possible behavior ramifications (you should be the leader for your dog not its equal, which letting it sleep on your bed tells it) its not a truly huge issue and if your fine with it then go ahead, its your dog. Just know that their may be some behavior issues.

I personally don't let my dog (german shepard) sleep in my bed, but he can sleep in my room. Love him to death though. There needs to be boundaries though, a dog or cat is not a person.

There is nothing wrong with treating a pet as a human, especially if they think they are. We have a dog, a maltese/shit-zu, who is convinced she is a person. She refuses to eat anything that looks remotely like dog food (we get this special 'gourmet' stuff), she'll only eat the food of a spoon or fork and only goes to sleep if she can get under the covers of your bed with her head on your pillow.
She is a various high maintenance dog, but I still love her :)
Now i would say this is perfect example of possible problems that can happen without boundaries and a hierarchy. Your dog is not human, it acts this way because it has learn't what it can get away with and does not see you, the owners, in a position of authority. I mean if you seriously have to feed it food from a fork then there's something wrong here. Any dog trainer would tell you this. Her head on your pillow, that her saying she is dominant. Still if this is what works for you, it is your dog. I just view that as completely inappropriate behavior. A dog is not a person, its a pack animal.

Absolutely not. I have cats and I love it when my pets sleep with me. I used to have a dog and I find it to be a snug feeling having your pet sleep at your feet.

Yes, it's immoral and despicable. Anyone doing that should be castrated and thrown in a fire (or the other way around, whichever you prefer).

my dog slept on my bed for 4 years, for the first year she would curl up next to me, but for the next three she would sprawl herself out on my unused pillow never had any problems with her, except for the fact that she was quite the active dreamer and would sometimes kick me in the face while she slept, but being a heavy sleeper myself, i never felt it

Hell no, it's fine. As some people said, it might cause separation anxiety, but that never happened to my parents dog. It's just fine if you make sure it's used to being alone when you're away for a few hours or whatever.

My cats sleep in my bed all the time. I can hardly sleep without them nowadays.

Well it's not weird for you, but it is for others that do not share your enthusiasm.
Or to turn this around what would you say about someone sleeping next to an animal you don't like(cow, chicken, pig, alligator, skunk,...), you would probably think it's weird.

Was with a girl that had her dog in bed all the time, even when we were bumpin nasties... that shit is just so freaky, ofcourse she didn't see it at all.
And then waking up covered in dog hair, you start to notice your pillow is covered in hair, and she even suggests bringing her dog over to my place... no, just no.

I got pets up the wazoo and I love them like any family member, but they have their place and I have mine.

The whole cooking them food and treating them like people is a bit much. Dogs are dogs, and need to be treated as such. Even dogs know that.

Letting them sleep in your bed? That's good. Perfect for winters if you sleep in a room with a rather enormous window that bleeds the winter chill through. We used to have a Swedish Elkhound in the family (they look a bit like wolves to the untrained eye), and she would always sleep in my bed because my sister (who owned her) kicks in her sleep - I don't. Sadly that dog took after her master. I would wake up on the floor every now and then. ¬__¬

Dogs sleep together in packs, so in a household it's not a bad idea to sleep with your dog close.

Well, seeing as how I have four gun-dogs, who all live in an outdoor kennel, and rarely come in the house, I would NOT let them come on my bed. They'd frickin dirty it within seconds, with their muddy paws. Also, they aren't allowed upstairs. But then, they are gun-dogs. Working dogs. They have been trained in a certain way, and that level of discipline has to be maintained.

Indoor, normal pet dogs? I have no problem with that, in fact, I'd say that it's perfectly normal, although the constant cooked meals are a bit much... ¬__¬

(Unless the dog is ill. An ill dog should be fed on a diet of chicken and rice.)

I wish my dog could sleep with me, but I'm unfortunate to have the top bunk of the bed.

No, I think it's normal, but cooking food is not.

Our beagle sleeps in our bed, too. He burrows under the covers, and will cuddle up against your leg, and start snoring. :)

I would say it's probably mostly a smell/hair thing. I'd be a little turned off if I went to someone's house and we were going to get down, and all I can smell is "there's been a dog sleeping here" funk all over the bed. And then I get up to find dog hair intertwined with everything that's attached to me.

That said, if I had a dog or cat or something, I can't say I'd be mad about them actually wanting to spend a night on my bed, just not every night (I like when animals are affectionate... my bunny only cuddles when he's not trying to fuck everything, and that's only because bunnies cuddle in general). Either that or I'd just have some antibacterial Febreze on hand at all times.
