I have heard good things about it, and may buy it, i liked L4D, but some people say you can't compare them. i liked survival mode on L4D probably more than the campaigns (which imo were too short)

What does the escapist think?

Its good. Not great, but good...

As a plus side, the requirements for this game are much smaller than the ones in L4D.

first off, killing floor is NOT like left 4 dead. the ONLY things they have in common are they are both co-op fps's (though where left 4 dead REQUIRES cooperation, killing floor can be played alone) and they have zombies.

that being said, if all you want is to kill wave after wave of zombies with no story or anything like that, its a fun game. if your looking for something deep and involving then killing floor wont satisfy you.

but as i said, do NOT go into the game thinking its like left 4 dead, because once you play it youll find out real quick that the games have practically nothing in common. but i think its a fun game and i do enjoy it.

killing floor IS a mod. the developers wanted tripwire to help with a new version, so they bought the mod and made it a retail release. but it started out as a mod for unreal tournament 2k4.

It is a Mod.
A developer bought it and made it better.

OT: Yeah, it's a good game. Can get a little grindy and samey, but they're starting to release DLC, Free maps (that comes with patches), new weapons and there is always the custom maps/game types that users create. For £15 (or your country's equivalent) it's not a bad buy.

Yeah I'm aware that it's a source mod I was just trying to distinguish it from Left4Dead.
It's not a Source mod it's on an upgraded version of the old Unreal engine (whatever one UT2004 is on).

It's an OK game for awhile, but nothing special, I regret buying it if I'm honest but I'm sure I'll get some more mileage out of it when some new stuff comes.

I think it's a little bit better than Left 4 Dead. Much easier just to get a few people together and fire away.

Its just plain fun. You're not killing zombies, you're killing specially bio-engineered beings that range from invisible ***** to a insane leader with a chaingun and rocket launcher for an arm. I preordered it and I've never regreted it because I found to be more fresh than Left 4 Dead. You get a nice selection of guns, its on the UT engine of which I'm fond of gameplay wise, and you will enjoy killing zombies to a killer metal soundtrack.

Oh, and I forgot to metion that unlike Left 4 Dead, there is a final boss. Its the maniac w/ the chaingun and rocket laucher I mentioned earler.

Seems the conscensus i that it's not a bad game neither is it a really good game. But for it's price it's pretty good. It's no left 4 dead but you'll still get a kick of playing it with your friends or on the internet.

From what I've seen, it's pretty decent. It looks like the kind of game that you can only play for so long though, which isn't really a bad thing, because it looks pretty good.

It's kind of a cool game though it's a bit impersonal when played with random people. The ZED time is a very cool gimmick though :D

Killing Floor does use the UT04 engine, or UE2, used in countless other games. It's a much-upgraded one by Tripwire, so things are about on par with Source.

I have it, and personally find it much more fun than L4D. The zombie-killing just feels so satisfying; all the guns have a nice *CRACK* to them, and some nice recoil-feel (though it doesn't actually disrupt your aiming thankfully) There's definitely a lot of strategy to it too, and I guarantee on Normal you won't be able to beat the Patriarch (boss) first time. It's actually genuinely pretty refreshing to finally have a first-person shooter with a really good boss fight.

Yeah I'm aware that it's a source mod I was just trying to distinguish it from Left4Dead. I think I was more put off by the graphics. If you leap over to steam and take a look at the pictures on steam it looks worse in game. to me anyway. I had heard somewhere that there was a last minute issue where they had to downgrade the detail quite a bit. Anyway it does seem like an ok game, but it definitely looks and plays like a mod. I started to play it last night but had to quit to go do something else.
It's not even a Source mod, it's an Unreal Engine 2.5 game

yeah sorry for some reason I was thinking the original was the UT2K4 mod and tripwire used another engine, but it looks like they just cleaned it up.
Yeah, Unreal Engines 2.5 and 3 are just as good, and are actually easier to develop for with the UScript (I've heard)
