Is linking an opening considered spoiling?

In a long time chat group I linked and imgur post that contained at the time the new OP for Gundam Build Fighters. Three of the people in that group watch the show on a regular basis and I thought they'd enjoy it. Instead I get a load of vitriol because linking the new OP is spoilers. Now I ask, if the OP doesn't have any actual animation clips from the show itself in it, how can it be spoilers? The episode had been out for some 8 hours already but they refuse to watch it on Youtube because reasons and get it other ways.

What the heck is an OP? Maybe I'm just dumb but I guess I don't understand the question here. It's a TV Show I presume, right? You linked the opening (that was OP means?)? Like...the opening theme thing?

Like this except for Gundam rather than The Simpsons?

Because if I'm reading you correctly and that's the case, then these guys need a serious reconsideration for what they're thinking. I'm a HUGE anti-spoiler guy (seriously...I hate it when people say just about anything when it comes to shows/movies/games/whatever; I did not go into the Escapist "Gaming" thread for two weeks until I beat Mass Effect 3 JUST in case someone said something that might be a sign that something happens at some point) but that's a little too far even to me.

Now granted, I wouldn't have watched the opening credits myself (since again, wicked anti-spoiler guy here) but if I see that someone is linking to something I know I don't want to see, I don't watch it. I don't rip into the person who posted it...

Maybe in some very vague way. Some openings in general spoil the entire plot (Mirai Nikki, i'm looking at you) but that's not the poster's fault. I always like to see the opening naturally instead of researching them, it's nicer that way.

Come on, would we all have been so blown away with the Attack on Titan opening if we all googled it first?

I tend to skip the OPs for the first couple episodes since they have a tendency to make parts of the show less mysterious, like the character reveals. Unless the OP is awesome.

Yeah, it's spoiling, but don't let it bother you. People should not get bent out of shape, since the OP is not the show. It's a side product of the show. A commercial for Agents of Shield spoiled the Coulson reveal, but it would be ridiculous to pile on a guy who posted the newest Agents of Shield commercial.

Sorry, I should have explained better. Yes it's the opening of a show, in this case they introduced a new opening for this episode.

Saying the opening of a show is spoilers is like saying the front or back cover of a book is spoilers. That's not even the Contents or Index. The people you're chatting with need some perspective.

Homer works at a power plant?! Thanks for spoiling that and ruining my life!

OT: Yeah if someone get's angry for showing the opening, that's just confusing more than anything. The opening is just that, the opening, you see anyway. I know Gundam openings may show parts from the show, but it's out of context enough to never be an issue.

Don't feel bad for the people who got angry at you, they are being ridiculously unreasonable.

What could the opening possibly spoil? I don't think those guys you're chatting with know what a spoiler is.

isn't that chronologically the first thing you'd see anyways?

I mean if the opening spoils major parts of the show, that's a bad creative choice. Unless it's like an opening from a later season that recaps previous seasons and you linked it to someone who isnt caught up yet.

Well keep in mind it could be something like Arrow where it actually does reveal some major things that happen during season 1 in the season 2 opener because the show is meant to be watched from the start. Normally I would call it a bad creative choice but given how the show is actually fairly difficult to get into if you aren't watching from the start due to the constant flashbacks in the show.

I think I understand what you're saying op. You mean like, when a new opening theme replaces the old one, right?
Then I can kinda see how its spoiler-y. Take One piece for example, if you haven't seen the Alabasta arc, and you watch an opening from after that arc
Nico Robin's switching to luffy's side
is going to be spoiled for you. I'm not sure how big of a deal things like that are, but hey, there are people who still complain about things like the Usual Suspects being spoiled, or even the Sixth Sense. I'd err on the side of caution just to be safe

In this case, no, anything 'spoilerish' like say, The Star Build Strike, or the tourny organizer being the 'badguy' where established several episodes prior

Anybody crying 'spoiler' is some one that hasn't been watching the show, and thus, doesn't know what they are talking about

Nah, its just a new opening to reflect the new over all status quo, for likely the rest of the series.

It depends on the opening and if it's the first in a series or a sequel or a new season. I was really excited when I heard Tales of Xillia 2 getting an European release, went over to Youtube to see the opening and saw things that gave away things that did say a bit about the ending of the game. So it can be a spoiler, but it's not the same dickish way such as saying in plain text that Harry dies at the end of book 7 of the Harry Potter series.

It can affect people though. Being very against getting games and movies spoiled I still don't want to blame anyone if an opening spoils something for me. I clicked it, I decided to watch through it, it was my fault.

Hmmm...

I guess it could. Like, if it's the second season, which has a new cast, because in the finale the old cast gets eaten by a space monster...or if the opening shows the old cast getting eaten by a space monster, it could be a spoiler.

It depends really on the anime itself since not all anime show future events in their opening show unlike Shonen shows like One Piece, Bleach and Naruto etc.

As for that Gundam openning, I'm assuming we're talking about the second opening right?

The only parts that I can see being spoiler material is at 0.40 (the face off and the fact that GM Sniper has not appear in the series yet which I am know assuming its belong to the twin since they appear in the openning) but anyone who have been watching it since episode 1 knows that will be the outcome. Also 1.00 is definitely spoiler, I mean yes those models are in silhouettes but now they implying that there is something more to the Chairman than meet the eye (I guessing his goofy personailty is an act).

The thing is, it was several .gifs of the opening that popped up on Imgur and I thought: "Hey, the Build Fighter guys will like this, I shall post it" and instead I get blasted for posting it. If I had the original link I'd show you what it all was but I've forgotten.
