Is marijuana really that bad?

I don't know about you guys, but marijuana is one of those things that I think should be legal but that I wouldn't use myself. Legal issues aside (for now), it's far less dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes, and has proven medical benefits. In fact, nobody has ever died from a weed overdose, but I've seen a girl who had a fever smoke a small amount and the fever went away, and I have a cousin who uses it medicinally for pain management as prescribed by her doctor.

So why spend all that money trying to stop people from using it and putting people in jail for 25 years for possessing a tiny amount? Why not legalize, regulate and tax it and keep people out of jail and money in the hands of the government?

Short answer: No more so than Alcohol.
Long Answer: Pretty much the same with some discussion on how we could just adapt appropriate laws to include pot for any of the possible legal issues if it were legalized. (Driving while high = DUI as an example.)

I just hate how pretentious people are with it. I have the same argument against alcohol. I drink - but I don't take pictures of me in which I am clearly 'wasted' or holding a drink, just to upload to Facebook so everyone can see that I was drinking.

With weed, I know of so many people that will try and slip it into conversation just because they think it will make them seem cool. Also, once again the same with alcohol, I hate the whole idea that it is needed to have fun. That's just sad.

I don't have anything against anyone who smokes it - entirely up to them. But, and I know this is cliché, I have seen how excessive amount can change someone...and it isn't cool.

I posted in a similar thread several months ago and my point of view hasn't changed so I'll just go ahead and post what I said there.

Now, I don't do the stuff personally, but I know a LOT of people who do and I can tell you one thing. The classic Cheech and Chong stoner is a HUGE minority. The vast majority of pot smokers are just normal people. They work hard, they raise families, and are responsible individuals. All they do is come home after a hard days work, take care of anything that needs to be taken care of around the house (cooking dinner, cleaning up, helping kids with homework, etc.) and then after all that is done, they sit back and unwind with a beer and a joint. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it and the idea that the government should prevent people from being allowed to do that is absurd.

I have a few friends who smoke pot sometimes, and if it affected them in any lasting ways I probably wouldn't still be friends with them. And if they smoked so much that their lives seemed to be dominated by it, I definitely wouldn't be friends with them because I actually have things to do. None of the people I know need it, but that doesn't mean they don't enjoy it on those times when they partake.

I'm honestly not sure whether I'm agreeing or disagreeing with you here.

I know at least 5 people who smoke pot regularly and I've noticed one of them having a progressively worse attention span in class. Whether that's the pot or something else, I don't know. All I know is I don't want to chance something I don't actually need to do anyway.

Because all the court fees and fines over a tiny amount of weed is more profit than taxing and regulating it.

Another thing I'd like to point out, just because "it's natural" doesn't mean you have the God-given right to do with it as you please. Do you use posion ivy/oak as a skin care product? haven you ever eaten a Moonseed? how about Yew? because all that stuff is natural too... and posionous. not all of them are posionous as to be fatal, but a number of them are as posionous to be nauseating and cause other side effects.

What about the less Carbon Monoxide, less Hydrogen Cyanide, less Arsenic, less Ammonia, less Formaldehyde and less Benzene, and less chemicals known to cause cancer? If it were just the tar, sure, maybe you'd have an argument there, but cigarettes have a lot more than just tar and tobacco in them.

read any of the medical studies, smoking weed does not increase your risk of lung cancer, and there is substantially less danger in it. PLUS you can vaporise (Inhaling vapour) that cuts out ALL bad stuff or you can cook and eat it, which obviously has no smoke, so stop being an idiot and read up on facts instead of bullshit propoganda
