Can we all please stop the endless childish whining about backwards compatibility?

Just seems that we had a few consoles that did feature backwards compat. namely the PS2, PS3 (more or less) and the Wii (but only because the Wii is just a GameCube with motion controls in it's core) and now we expect every producer ever to incorporate it in their products. Why? I don't recall a global outrage when the SNES, NES, N64, GameCube, Sega.. etcetera.

Pretty much the decades before the 6/7th gen had limited or no backwards compat on followups with completely different hardware.
The issue now is much different. For one, they have marketed and sold digital downloads that are associated with your system. Two, games of the last generation were of very high quality. I would like to continue to play Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, XCOM, and many others, and it would be nice if everything could transfer to the new console. I understand the architechture prohibits this, but it is possible to have an add-on peripheral that would allow it. Third, I don't really foresee games of the next generation being that much of a leap than the previous one. Also, games are now a huge portion of the entertainment industry. Many would say it is the top; and I have a significant collection of games unlike the previous generation. I definately feel like backwards compatibility is important, and I respect and understand your opinion.
