I've noticed in a review that Yahtzee praises Painkiller. I reckon it's pretty pants. Not because i think that a game intention is that bad, but just because i think it's not executed that well. Most of the levels end up feeling the same, and they often aren't open enough. I actually found most of the guns more annoying than fun. Also the gameplay is set up so you know when there are enemies in the area or when it's clear, making it pretty impossible to create any real suspension or tension.
A game that i think is similar to Painkiller, but in almost every aspect better is Serious Sam. It's still mindless shooting that admits it, but has better environments (especially Serious Sam: Second Encounter), guns, enemies and humour.
But anyway, what does everyone think?

Painkiller is a game with very solid gameplay. Its action packed and the action never stops. Thats all it offers, and every second you wait the game becomes a little more dated.

If we`re talking about the JP album then yes it is made of refined awesomeness (especially compared with stuff like ram it down and turbo) as for the game then yeah it`s a fun romp and the painkiller itslef is great to use , good level design too.

Painkiller was good for the guns and soundtrack really. Everything else came off as...lacking.

I certainly liked it, and I liked Serious Sam too.

Now, I was about to make a snide remark about the good ol' days, but instead, I'll simply state that Serious Sam was a very good game if only for Sam's "personality" and constant references to Duke Nukem.

Painkiller I'd compare it to in a very different way, since, well...Painkiller was trying to be serious, has more closed-off areas, but has some very interesting parts that SS doesn't.

Its fun, has some sick weapons, and just non stop oldschool style waves of baddies. It's fast paced and an all around solid fun game. Thats about all i have to say about it.

Is this what passes as slang these days?

ya damn kids and your music.
Yeah I haven't actually heard anyone say it in a while, but my brother always said it...I think I will start using it again from now on

I played the demo on Steam. It's not bad, but frankly if you want to play a FPS with indiscriminate action, play Left 4 Dead instead. Painkiller is okay, but it won't change your life or anything.

And Left 4 Dead will change your life?

One of the best Polish PC games, except for Witcher... Or maybe it's a bit better.

I don't like Painkiller much. Chalk it up as yet another game I disagree with Yahtzee on. Suffice it to say we have very different tastes. And Painkiller gets my vote for worst story ever, it's not that it's worse in itself than the majority of video game stories out there, it just does it all so... earnestly that the final result is utterly contemptible.

It's a pity, really, I'd love to play a true successor to Doom. I like Serious Sam okay (better than Painkiller, anyway), but it sure ain't Doom.
