Just curious as to how piracy is handled around the world. Is the law strongly enforced against it or do you see boutiques or stores everywhere that sell pirated games and apparently have been around for years.

I don't know if it's actually illegal in India, but I was unable to find any proper legal games there, and the pirated ones are basically everywhere, probably for less than a dollar.

Then again, I did see a PC version of Smackdown! VS. Raw 2010 (said game does not exist on said platform) so I doubt they'd even be worth the buck.

I hate on the beginning of DVDs when they give you that warning.
Yeah, because downloading Toy Story 3 from the Internet is EXACTLY like stealing a Car.

There's quite a few. Indonesia and Thailand pretty much sell only pirated DVDs and games.
I can go to the mall right now and find 10 different kiosks and stands that sell pirated games. Although, I don't know if piracy is legal or illegal here.

China, obviously.
Well, technically it's illegal there, but nobody cares. Heck, even administrative civil servants download movies at work.

To be fair though, it's not like a whole lot of stuff is officially released there.

Costa Rica. You can tell they're copies because the covers look like they came out of a color printer. Also, the cases are thin. And, the people say they're copies. I was at one of them, and I asked him if the games I saw were all he had. He said, "Originals, yes."

A lot of seeders have been punished with severe fines. Not so legal.

The real kicker imo is that the pirates will just edit the DVD to get rid of that warning. Thus making it better than the copy I legitimately purchased. Grr

Well there are no stores in Romania that sell pirated games, this was a "2005 thing".But that still doesn't change the fact that we can still get stuff off torrents, without any problems :p

Couldn't resist, but stealing a car is much more serious than a movie. But it is like shoplifting, except I can imagine it being slightly worse for some reason.

OT: Not everywhere. I believe Brazil is pretty laid back on it.

Calumon: I couldn't steal any of that stuff. They're all bigger than me!
