Is playing Aion again a Bad decision?

First of all, this is my first post, but I've been on these forums from time to time for a while. Anyway, I used to play Aion right before it was F2P, where I was thinking of buying the game, but would just level to the level cap (which I think was 15). I really like the Asmodan race or whatever they are called. The atmosphere was great and all and while the low-level combat was somewhat stale, it was cool to look at. I also loved the idea of wings.

Ever since then, it is now 2014 and I am in my summer vacation, bored out of my mind and with a competitive itch. After playing through tons of PvP games I want more! I heard Aion was especially fulfilling and the whole wing combat seems interesting.

So, is getting back on Aion a bad decision? Is it still a grindfest? Is the game playable by non-eastern standards?

As a bonus, can anyone recommend me some great PvP alternatives that is not TF2, WoW, LoL, Blacklight Retribution, or Planetside 2? I really want to play a good PvP game!

Starcraft 2 is a great PvP game in my opinion, but that may not be in the genre you're looking for. World of Tanks is an option, or Hearthstone, or Ultra Street Fighter IV, or DayZ, or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Although there's debate about the state of single-player games, I don't think anyone can seriously believe that there's been a better time for multiplayer games than the present.

I used to play DayZ back when it was a mod for Arma2 with my friends. We got the best weapons and it turned out to just be a rush to the airfield/military camp, get the best weapons, and just camp these areas for anyone else who had the same idea. It got old very quickly and the ultra laggy players and glitchy zombies were incredibly frustrating as they clipped through walls and such.

The rest don't interest me except for SC2, which I am considering buying.

I recently returned to Aion myself. I would say that it probably is one of the best F2P MMO's out there. The cash shop still seems rather optional. The action does get a lot more involved as you progress. By end game you will have more skills than you can fit on your skill bars. The leveling is a whole lot faster than it used to be, especially with the fast-track server. Most of the PvP is at end game, but getting their is no longer grindy at all. You will have more quest options than you will likely be able to complete on your way to max level.

I would also recommend Guild Wars 2 for good pvp(not F2P but only a $25 entry fee), as well as Path of Exile(also F2P).

I would suggest TERA. It has some of the feel of Aion, but plays more like a Dynasty Warriors game. It recently went F2P and I tried it out with a friend. The grind has been toned way down, the new player experience is pretty good, and the game has a decent focus on PvP.

I couldn't tell you much about Aion, I only played it at launch, for about 2 months when the grind was at it's worst. I thought the game was fun, but it wasn't what I was looking for (Lineage 3). But I did enjoy my time with Aion, and I've enjoyed the little time I've put into TERA.
