is "playing with freinds in the same room" completley dead?

Me and my college friend played through Hunted: The Demon's Forge, we also played through Little Big Planet. It all depends on what kind of game you want. But there is a lot less in the world then there was before

Mate there's still various games out there that have split screen co-op along with on-line features on both Xbox 360 and PS3.

Some games I can play online with mates but I chose to go to their house and still play online on the same server but in the same room as makes communication ect easier.

So just because a game is "on-line" doesn't mean you have to sit at home alone to play it.

Split screen causes lag with today's graphics.
Depends on the game but generally it is noticably chopier as the processer has to do alot more. Some games do it better than others and some we just never designed to be able to do it properly without compromising the single screen experience I guess.

I've been playing through Renegade Ops recently with a friend at is use an intersting dynamic split screen with allocates the player a portion of the screen when you seperate from each other but forms into one single screen which you are in the same part of the map. It gets a bit laggy when it goes into split screen mode and can get confusing but it's a novel idea and I prefer it over a static split screen for that game - just try to stick together.

Resident Evil 5 was another intersting case. It split the screen into 2 seperate boxes in the top left and bottom right of the screen and had black borders around them. This was to maintain a realistic aspect ratio for each player and not just split it down the middle and stretch the resolution. I didn't like the small box but I understand why they did it. Probabaly helped frames as well.

Nope, I still bring my computer over to friends houses and LAN, admittedly much less co op games out there now, especially for the computer but we make due.
That or we play wow, still in the same house mind you.

Certainly not "completely dead."
But perhaps in the process of dying.
I like to do it every now and then, and I personally think it's actually a lot more fun than playing with someone online.

I feel ya man I find myself playing on older systems more than my current ones half the time because of this very reason I spend most of my gaming with friends its what we do while hanging out. I wouldn't be surprised if I slowly stop playing games because of the lack of local multiplayer games.

I dunno. Me and three of my friends spent yesterday and last Saturday playing system link gears of war on two consoles in the same room with really big HDTVs.

It was fucking awesome. Especially when it got late and we started a drinking game. Every time you die, you do a shot.

The more you die, the more you drink, the drunker you get, the worse your reactions, the more you die.

It's quite fun.
But you have to admit it sucks just to play games with a few buddies you need 2 copies of the game 2 consoles and 2 tvs not to mention all the moving and sometimes that's still not enough

Split screen just seemed to disappear when online play arrived, and like most of you, I sorely miss the days when multiplayer meant having your friends round and sitting on the couch together to play.
Or playing with brothers, sisters, cousins, spouses, etc. I tried playing Saint's Row 2 with my GF recently but once I chose the huge option for Co-Op play I was told I needed to be connected to Xbox Live. We both sighed. I miss split-screen...
