Don't go expecting Fallout because it's far from it.
I would say the best way to imagine it is Borderlands mixed with Bioshock, the game looks very solid but how far the story extends is still very questionable.

I have it on pre-order since I got it cheap, but I'm not overly excited. I think my biggest disappointment is the full campaign isn't coopable. It seemed perfect for it from what I've seen...

Okay, so I love fallout 3 and New vegas, and have seen many other gamers compare RAGE to those games.
I would be more than happy to have a fallout clone to keep me tied over till the next fallout comes out, but I'm definitely on the
fence about Rage, yes its by ID Software the creators of the first person shooter (before romero and carmack split, carmack giving us endless
sequels to game franchises, romero giving us ugh 'Daikatana' but also giving us inadvertently 'Deux Ex' but that is another topic)

Anyway what do you think, will RAGE suck, or will ID deliver a shooter with more soul to it than the bland corrider shooters it's been pumping out for the last decade?
I realise this may seem a loaded topic, but bear in mind I'm a fan of ID, and of Fallout so would love to see RAGE be a good game.
I played it today at Eurogamer, it does not suck.

In fact, it's pretty damn good.

I know, I was surprised too.

I got a half an hour go on rage. I fucking loved it. I really wasn't to bothered about getting it, but it really was quite an awesome thing to play. Its fallout meet mad max with really tight controls.

Looks like a upgraded Doom 3 same game different textures.
^Looks like some guy who hasn't even looked at a proper trailer.

One game was a linear corridor shooter with some limited exploration and a ridiculous number of monster closets.

The other game is a fairly open-world post-apocalyptic adventure shooter with vehicles, all kinds of crazy weapons, and a ridiculous level of environmental detail.

It looks to be fantastic. But the way the company is approaching used game sales with locking content is terrible IMO. I actually am going to buy it used because of what they are doing.

I think it will be pretty fun, and I've been waiting for it for 4 years. Plus it doesn't have the insane amount of hype it will never live up to like Skyrim does (and Halo did).

Rage looks like a solid and well executed shooter, at least in terms of gameplay.

However, I strongly suspect that the story and characters will be absolute pants.

I might grab it if there's nothing else coming out when it does, otherwise I'll snag it when it gets cheap.

I dunno, from what I've read and watched it certainly has potential, but then again people said the same thing about me. And I enjoyed Doom 3.

I watched the behind the scenes series they made a couple of times, and I must say that what they showed looked really good and very fun to play. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's this series of videos:

There's a couple of them. At first I didn't expect much out of this either, but then I watched those videos and I got a lot more excited for it.
Thanks for that. I hadn't seen that series of videos yet. Roll on 7th October!

i hope not.

i think behind rage is a concerted effort to learn from mistakes and that is a methodology i can get behind.

but aside from what id are learning to do i know what they can do so it won't suck as badly as recent attempts to reinvigorate entities from the last decades golden age of shooters.

plus i'm loving the attemnion payed to NPC's and enemies, also is that john goodmans voice?

Edit; i wonder deus ex fans think i meant Human revolution

GameFly should be shipping it to me... so I'm not sure.

I would say though that I'm skeptical for it... seeing as how we just played Fallout and that stuff.

ALTHOUGH I like the concept of the "Authority" if that "generic" thing wasn't included I might very well not want to just play in a tribalistic looking war scene. STILL I hope they appear often and in an interesting way.

LIKE THE ENCLAVE!

Oh wait... the Enclave... the Authority... I wonder.

I'm also thinking of getting this game with my pre-order going online in a few days and i also heard Steve blum's voice in that video you linked which means my purchase for this game is now a solid one.

I also loved the most of the previous Doom and Quake games so that's another reason for me to buy the game.

What good has ID done lately? Doom 3 was a disaster.
Doom 3 sold well and was received well. I enjoyed it immensely and I know many, many other people did too.

ID has given Rage a lot of depth in its gameplay from I've seen, heard and read. Also, helps that it looks stunning.

There are no comparisons that can be drawn from F3, really. The similarities end with 'post-apocalyptic'.

If the multiplayer racing really is like the Mario Kart on steroids it looks to be... totally worth it.

It has a solid gameplay - if this is what you expect. Other than that I don't think it will be that interesting - guns and deathracing with customizable vehicles, this is what I expect and I doubt we'll get anything more than that.

P.S. ZeniMax, give IDtech5 to Bethesda and get back Romero.

It really just looks like a slightly above-average shooter. Are our expectations so low nowadays that a game like Rage is hailed like some sort of Messiah just because it's made by Id and the gameplay looks 'alright'?
The same could be said the otherway around. are our expectations so high that nothing could ever be good because its not made by a "popular" developer like Bungie, Bioware, or Infinity Ward?

I got a chance to play Rage for about 30 minutes at Pax and I can definitely say it played and looked fantastic. The feel of the weapons was what I expected from Id, the character models and animations moved incredibly fluid and were very diverse. The gameplay videos that are stuck at 30 fps just don't do the game justice imo, it runs so smooth that its just hard to believe that the game looks and runs as well as it does. I think people really haven't givin this game a chance because of the other post apocalyptic games that have come before it, I played Fallout 3 and Borderlands and honestly there is no comparison...besides guns and bandits.
