Is Red vs Blue the best thing about Halo?

I'm surprised people still bash Halo so much. I thought people would be looking at CoD now, because it's popular. Let's face it, people hate things other people like. IT MAKES YOU COOL OR SOMETHING. Seriously, Halo was always criticized for being generic. Now it's one of the only original shooters out right now. As an FPS, it's CONSIDERABLY different than all of these military shooters that cloud the market. One major thing I really like about Halo: the jumping. It's not sluggish or sticky. You hit the button and you jump.

So, no RvB isn't the only good thing to come out of Halo in my opinion. Halo was a great thing to come out of Halo. I love RvB, but calling the franchise it comes from boring because you played for a lousy ten minutes doesn't cut it. You should have just left that little tid bit out.

And holy hell, those complaining about Monty's animations in RvB... Wow, just wow. People someone how manage to bash EVERY possible thing out there. No matter how great it is. Someone has to dislike it just to be different. Do you people have any idea how long it took Monty to do that stuff? And how great it looks given what he had to work with? Boring? Seriously... You actually find it boring? What the hell excites you then? Planet collisions?

Wow, that was a lot of questions.
My feelings are practically summed up in this comment. You're not my Doppelganger are you?

I love HALO, my fave FPS series, and I love RVB, the best Machinima ever. IMHO.

eh i have seen about 9-10 episodes of red vs blue, i don't care for it really, the voice actors aggravate me if anything.

but halo itself? i actually really enjoy it, the story in the games isn't there that much, and it never flaunts itself for it, although the halo books are among my top ten favorite books of all time so i can't completely denounce the story.
Red vs Blue gets A LOT better later on. I guess I don't know which 9-10 episodes you watched though. Mic quality also improves drastically, so that helps with the voices.

People don't know how thick the Halo universe actually is. I really like the concept of the Forerunners and all that they've done. There's a lot going on, but you have to look to find it. I think that cinematic wise, Halo has always done a really good job. ODST and Reach really showed what Bungie could do. Still, I would have liked a bit more character development in Reach. Quit dieing so fast, dammit! But, they still made the fall of Reach something to care about, and you really do feel their struggle.

There are your problems right there.

You have no right to condemn a game that you have only played 10 minutes of. In fact when I first played Halo, the first 10 minutes confused me and I may have even felt the same as you about it, thinking it was rubbish. But I gave it a chance and now the whole series is one of my favourite.

Plus, it's easy to resent a game you're not very good at. Again, playing it more and giving it a chance can help you out no end. I'd be able to accept your arguments a lot easier if you'd played at least one Halo game all the way through and had some constructive criticisms.
Well, not to start an argument or anything here, I was just expressing my opinion. I can't speak for the OP whom you quoted first, but for myself, I understand that it's a good shooter because so many other people like it. I'm just saying I didn't like it, and part of that stemmed from the fact that I didn't do very well when I played it. And even when I tried to learn, I was never given the opportunity to become better.

I don't like shooters or fighting games because I suck at both genres. I'm not twitchy enough for either of them, so I stick with Strategy and Role-Playing games as my genres of choice. Since I don't like shooters and Halo is a shooter, I just don't like Halo. I do, however, like Red vs. Blue, and that was my ultimate point on this thread.

So if someone says they don't like Halo they are automatically trolling? And am I mistaken or did someone (Hubilub) equate playing Halo with having sex?! Wow.

I said I didn't like the game, and from what I can about 50% of the other posters on this thread think the same. SO by that logic half of the people who posted on this thread are also trolling.

Rooster Teeth actually a humerous bit of machinima and managed to turn it into 8 seasons with what eventually turned out to be a pretty engaging storyline. A storyline that kind of made sense when you think about it. Add into it great characters, witty dialogue and towards the end some pretty decent action sequences and i PERSONALLY think it's a winner.

I would give my left nut for master chief to say something like; "There is no 11 you fucking whore!", while trying to leave a telephone message.

I think what Hubilub was saying, if you only do X once for 10 minutes, chances are you haven't experienced everything it has to offer and used sex as an example. His way was much funnier than mine and it's a shame he was suspended because of it.

It's not that you or 50% of the people in this thread dislike the game, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, as am I mine. It's just that, esepecially on this forum, people tend to get snobby about Halo CoD in particular and deem it WORST GAEM EVAR. It gets especially bad around release times, especially when in almost every thread relating to the game, everyone immediately jumps on the Halo Hate Wagon.

This threads different because, as you show, you don't have to like the games to like RvB.

I agree that Master Chief could do with taking a level in Church though, much giggles would be had.

a good 8 of the episodes were from earlier seasons and i have seen a couple of the newer ones, which i did notice better mic quality, and a bit better overall quality, but regardless i still find their voices..*annoying*

which is odd, because i have zero problem with any of the jrpg's i have ever played... hell even snow/hope/vanille i have zero problem with voice wise.

and yes i agree, there are alot of small details when you really look into it, but like you said they should've gone more in depth on the characters before their oh so sweet deaths.

Well I hope that if the mods are reading this that they remove Hubilubs suspension. I didn't take offense at his insinuation that I am bad in bed. Seriously, he made a joke, let him back on please.

Played Halo 3 beginning to end, too short and rather bland. I only really bought and played it because of Red vs Blue. Leave it to the fans to take something and make it better.

I played about an hour of my friends copies of halo 2 and 3 each. I hated both of them then he tried to get me to watch Red vs Blue and at first I was dismissive. Then I watched an episode. Soon I watched episodes 1 to 100 in one sitting. I love red vs blue and I have since played two levels of halo reach with my friend again and again I hated it. So I cannot speak about halo 1, ODST or WARS but from my experience Red vs Blue is the best thing to come from the franchise.

Red Vs. Blue is pretty good. I would not consider it the best thing about the Halo series. In my opinion the best thing about the Halo series is the music. I think Halo: ODST had the best music out of any of the Halo games.

RvB is awesome, but its not the best thing to come out of Halo, the best thing from Halo is the noise and elite makes when they die, its all like BLAGHHHGAHAGHA.
I walk round my house making that noise its so good XD

I agree, but only because, like you, I do not own an xbox. Only ps3.

But I imagine you will anger a lot of 360 owners with this thread.

Ah yes, Red vs Blue is good, but without Halo? No Red vs Blue. No Red vs Blue? nobody would have known. You can't compare the two, they're both equally good in their own right. I'm a huge halo nut. Played all the games, read most of the books, watched almost every episode of Red vs Blue. Is it good? Fuck yeah. Better than Halo? For some people, Yes, but I love my halos better than that. It's a good add-on. Kinda like multiplayer. And no. It's not the best thing about Halo. Just something some drunk guys made up and turned into something big.

I love Halo just as much as RvB, but I must say, no one comes close to RoosterTeeth when making machinima. Especially not JonhCJG, although I appreciate his effort to do everything himself.

I just realized, almost every post I've ever made on The Escapist has made reference to Halo. Oh well, at least I'm not always referencing Call of Duty.
