I recently got a new computer and found that it was SLI compatible. Is SLI really that much better than a single video card? Does it justify the cost of getting two video cards?

I find SLI is good for the midrange user, and the ultra-diehard.

2 $120 cards sometimes perform better than a single $250 card of the same brand.

However adding a second card WONT double your performance. It's more like a 60% boost.

Of course, with more cards, you can add more monitors 8)

No.

By the time SLI/Crossfire is actually useful, it's far cheaper to just get a new mid-range card since it will perform better due to improvements in architecture.
