Sounds good. I hate saltwater taffy, but I like Laffy Taffy and generally any taffy that doesn't taste like boiled shoe leather and gasoline.

I would assume the same effect can be made with molasses, honey, or agave nectar.

It's a French Canadian thing. My family used to do this all the time. It's also called tier (sounds like tear). But yeah its a big thing in Quebec and French Canadian parts of the country.
actually, we call it tire. it's delicious, but only the one that you have at a sugar shack, otherwise the one that they sell in store often have a 25% glucose, and are not 100% maple, wich change the taste a lot. i live in Québec, and it's a very normal thing to me.

every stage of the maple water is delicious.

-pure water, which is what come out of the tree
-reduit (reduction ? i'm not sure what would be the englsh word for it) which is the phaase of the boiling that come just before it's syrup
-syrup, of course
-taffy
-butter, it's soft sugar, you can spread it on a toast.
-hard sugar, you can chew on it, they often make candy out of this
-hard candy.

to bad however that we a have a neverending winter this year, and that the maple dont flow yet
You're absolutely right on the spelling. I knew how it sounded but didn't know how to spell it. Thanks.

Weirdly enough, I live in Florida, but I HAVE heard of this before... from Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (when he went to Canada).

Looks like a neat thing to do. I seriously doubt I'll ever have an opportunity to try it myself (Florida and all), but it looks tasty.

Then again, I bet alot of Canadians have probably never tried alligator jerky or deep-fried alligator, so I've got that working for me (both are quite tasty, btw).

...I remember seeing this when I was 5 years old on an episode of Little Bear, the human girls mother made it when they were snowed in.

That's what it's called?

My gran - who I have to call aunt so she doesn't feel old and alone and wrinkly - used to make it for us all the time. Except she put, like, fruit and stuff in it.

The second most delicious thing ever. Nothing beats donuts, though.
