Obviously, not the entire movie, it has the common myth of boy becoming knight, getting magic sword and defeating the evil empire.

The very first scene with scrolling words is a maybe.

Second scene with Destroyer chasing the ship is awesome.

Then the Stormtroopers and Darth Vader.

I always thought their helmets were slightly too big and Vader is wearing a cape!
Coupled with the ridculous helmets the rebels are wearing and bad aim all around.
Star Wars is very silly. Period.

I'm sure theres a TvTropes page for the becoming a knight and saving the world thing, but I don't know what its called.

In the meantime, there is even a trope on how bad [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy] the stormtroopers accuracy is

I some ways I can agree that some aspects of Star Wars are a little bit fantastical. But that's what made it great in my opinion. It wasn't just straight Sci-Fi - it was Science Fiction crossed with Fantasy.

You also have to remember when the film was made, and the technology they had back then. As for storm-troopers, I don't think they look silly. Having a helmet that is (supposed) to protect you from knocks and blows and shots and poisonous gases is a great idea. Thing is, storm-trooper armor acts like it's made from paper-mache, as it doesn't even stop rocks from knocking the trooper out.

When you compare it to some of the more "modern" sci-fi films, yeah, some aspects were a bit silly. But back then it wasn't, and I still think that Star Wars had more heart than say, Avatar.

About the only things I can think of that I found "silly" with the original three films were:

1) All the higher-ups in the empire having British Accents (yes I get the symbolism, it's still stupid)
2) The fact that jedis limited themselves to light-sabers. I get that they can block shots with them, but seriously you could use more than one type of weapon guys.
3) The Ewoks. God damn, those stupid furry little ewoks.
4) Some of the droids acting too human

Yoda wasn't silly in the original star wars - he was just a wise sage who could do amazing things. He only became silly when they decided to make him a hyper-active CGI frog in the prequels.

Speaking of what was silly in the prequels:

EVERYTHING. You had those idiotic combat droids which were far too slapstick, you had Jar-Jar, you had Hayden Christensen behaving like an angst-ridden emo and a jerk to boot, you had a collection of CGI aliens who tried to be funny, but whose routines and "jokes" looked like they were taken out of a three stooges episode, you had the Boba-Fett army which was perhaps one of the most blatant fan-services in all of history... the prequels were a mess.

But I don't think there's much wrong with the original film. It might be corny to Generation Z-ers growing up with iPods and "The Matrix", but I was born in the 80's and still had to watch things on Video-tape. Even in the early 90's, Star Wars still packed a punch. I still think it will age well.

The original trilogy had some faint pantomime charm.
But nothing about them were that memorable.
- I suppose what I'm trying to say is that Star Wars is indeed, incredibly silly.

Might just be me, but I prefer my sci-fi with a darker slant.
I defer to Alien, Silent Running and Solyaris, for example.

You know I have to say, the older I get the worse the movies get...even the original trilogy I pick more and more problems with the story, plot holes and just the piles of crap it really is... It makes me a little bit sad really as I loved the movies as a kid :(

Yes, but most fans are too stuck up to appreciate it (not on this forum it seems).
Thats why I prefer Doctor Who.

It's about a guy with a mask he never takes of, hitting back lasers with a sword made out of light, and you wish to call it anything but silly?

yeah, whatever, I'm going back to my bass.

Watch Space Balls. But full series was good with the exception of the books, comics, Episode 2, and the new cgi cartoon. Cause all the stuff i just mentioned is just downright silly.

It's a bit silly, yes. Is that supposed to be bad? And all the silliness is well done.

After watching A New Hope on DVD for the first time in a while - yeah, it actually is pretty silly. But I still love it - it's just awe-inspiring to think about all the influences and ideas that went into it's creation, and the influences that it in turn had on so many other books, movies, games, whatever.

But, yeah - it's quite silly at times. Just take a look at these [http://www.cracked.com/article/119_6-star-wars-characters-too-retarded-film/] lists [http://www.cracked.com/article_17546_7-classic-star-wars-characters-who-totally-dropped-ball.html] for some reasons why...

The overall plot of the movies was a little bit flimsy, but star wars bis so much bigger than the movies.

There are alot of actual books made about it, there are some pretty good games, there are also some realy good short-stories that you can find in comic books (some of which however are absolute G-rated bullshit that would be more entertaining if vomited on the page), and of coarse there is the TV series which is the equivalent to a fourth grader who didn't study for a test so he just tries to see how many wrong answers he can get.

My point is however, Star Wars isn't just six movies, there is in fact a "star wars universe."

Now is the part when I finish and everyone calles me a fanboy
