Is the "Batman" villain, Mad Hatter, a paedophile?

Just what the title says. I've just heard this from a number of sources and wanted to know if it was true.

I'm not sure if they've come straight out and said (or shown) it, but they've very strongly implied it. So pretty much, yes

What sources and what continuity? It matters, afterall.

Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth and Batman: Haunted Knight. In the latter, he kidnaps a young Barbara Gordon and forces her into a tea party dressed as Alice. That's what Wikipedia and a couple of other websites I can't remember say.

That doesn't exactly make him a pedophile, it just makes him a sick bastard. And who else could he get for Alice but a young child? Alice has always been a young child, so a person with an obsession with Alice in wonderland would need one for a real life tea party scene. Unless it says somewhere he chose her for sexual intent then he is most likely not a pedo.

I don't know, I haven't read them. That's just one example. Apparently, there are "implications".

However, I have the annotated script for Serious House on A Serious Earth here, and the annotations by Grant Morrison suggest that he was at least trying to evoke the image of a Victorian paedophile.

Most of the subject matter seems to show a fixation with children and childhood. I have always thought of the Mad Hatter as a man who has lost touch with his own reality (yeah I know Batman villian, Duh) but he seems to create his own realities and they tend to involve childhood/childlike settings.

I have not seen or read any of these that indicate sex or sexual themes though. I would tend to lean towards no and simply say that the resulting inferences are mearly a byproduct of the character and his psychosis.

Well I have never read the comic, my only experiences with the Mad Hatter are Arkham City (I haven't actually played Asylum) and the Batman Animated Series, so I haven't really seen many pedophile connotations.

Yeah, I guess they were trying to do that angle but I reckon it's good that they didn't just say that he's a pedophile. It makes it stay mostly as a fan theory instead of canon, and really with all the sick bastards in Batman I don't really think a pedophile would work.

I love all the batman threads that have started popping up! I get to amaze you all by my astounding knowledge of comics and preserved virginity!

Now, in Robin Year one which was I think the dynamic duo's first encounter with the mad hatter, He's abducting girls Dick Graysons age, locking them in a warehouse and selling them to some Asian dictator. Throughout the comics, Mad hatters MO has been finding and experimenting on various people, Often young girls who become his "Alice", as in Alice in wonderland. Usually batman and robin either stop him or find some of the girls murdered in fairly gruesome ways, often with evidence of their minds being experimented on for The mad Hatters control experiments.

Now, it's never really been said he's a paedophile, however, seeing as how he has a tendancy to abduct twelve year old girls and lock them in various dark rooms, forcing them to wear wigs, controlling their minds and dressing them up, it seems quite likely he is in some manner of speaking.

Tim Drake Can kiss my ass, I'M the best Robin.

One: Fair fucking play, just wanted to say that.
Two: He uses mind control on 12 year old girls, but I bet they only show what he makes so many do, what about what happens to those that AREN'T showed? I mean with the Villain being around so long...

Well, I think your second bit is what the writers intended to have so that people like us would figure it out for ourselves. What's unsaid is left to the imagination so they can stick to the regs but still get the message across.

Yeah, after watching Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, I've been getting into Batman comics and stuff. Just a couple of weeks ago, I bought The Long Halloween, The Dark Knight Returns, Year One, and The Killing Joke. I'm thinking of getting Dark Victory and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth next.

I wonder if some people see him as a pedo because they WANT to read into it naughty pedo thoughts and think about what he might be doing to them.

He's not exactly the kind of Batman villain usually associated with that kind of thing.

Edit: Fine, fuck you escapist, no spoiler tags.

why would you even be a pedo in the first place? a twelve year old girl will not satisfy your sexual needs a twenty year old will and will look hot
