Is the Current Events subforum only to discuss events that are happening? No other kind of political topic?

Because I used to make threads about questions on political or social matters that's not related to the "escapism" part like talking about games, movies, media, etc.

But with this revamped Escapist forum, I can't tell whether I can ask things like "What are your thoughts on X topic of a political nature" that's not necessarily about an event that's going on now in the Current Events Subforum. And I don't think I can talk about these topics in Off-Topic either.

They have said that it is not R&P from yesteryear, it is for Current Events

So if what you are talking about is R&P but NOT a current event, it is supposed to go in Off-Topic

EDIT: Worst case if they change their minds or decide whatever you are talking about should go in Current Events, they'll just move it.

As far as I can tell, Current events is pretty much R+P with a different title. I haven't seen any threads getting locked for not being appropriate and there are quite a few political threads in there.

That's why R&P should just be brought back. The last guy took it away for his own reasons, but he's not here anymore.
If the users want to discuss stuff, they'll find a way (probably by derailing a thread)

Current Events doesn't have to be just a political topic, but that's typically where the discussions are steered to. For example, if you wanted to discuss Net Neutrality, we'd be OK having that in the Games subforum or Current Events.

I'm slightly suspicious this will slowly lead to them banning controversial religious discussion entirely. I think that'd be a shame but we'll see maybe I'm just paranoid.

Quite a suspicion, given that there has been no dedicated religion thread as of yet that I know of, only various ignorant potshots across the forums at the "silly persons believing in sky people."

Aside from Houseman's threads, I suppose, but those are really only good for ignoring.

Sorry man, you got stinky bait, and the Wok don't bite at that.
Although to be fair to you this site is also severely lacking in nuanced and educated opinions on the topic of religion, and any discussions I've seen in your threads are those which an entry-level philosophy class or even high school debate team would have. I can't blame you for that.
