Is The Office (U.S.) an evolving series?

GOOOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM!

.... OK, it didn't work for Michael Scott, why should it work for me?

I know I was not the only one who thought that an American remake of the British TV-series "The Office" was a bad idea. And a really bad idea at that. And I was proven right once the first season came. They felt like they where completely ripping off the U.K. series, even down to the atmosphere.

But something happened... Something... Magical... And that thing was... ORIGINALITY!

Perhaps I'm stretching it with calling it "Originality", but you must admit that The Office has evolved into something of its own instead of being a simple boring remake. There are new characters, expanded relationships, character development, and even a feeling of better quality compared to its big brother.

I think The Office is one of the few cases in which a series actually is at its best with season 5, especially the final episodes where Michael starts "Michael Scott's Paper-company".

Or maybe I'm wrong about the subject at hand. Do you think that The Office evolved into something superior compared to its big brother (Or at least something slightly more original than just ripping the U.K. off) or will it always be a failure?

I wouldn't say it's better than the original version, different is more what I'd say. I like both, the American version ahs more time and the result is more fully developed characters. The characters are more quirky and rely more on shock humor than the "oh, I can relate to that" humor of the UK version.

It has most certainly evolved beyond the stale clone it originially appeared to be, and it far surpassed my expectations of it.
