in starting to get weary of these updates microsoft are doing, as much as the NXE was cool at first, its realy distracting me, in this new update, you can now buy clothes for your avatar... WHAT IS THE POINT, if i want to play a game, gears of war for example, i don't need my avatar to have a cap on saying gears of war, or some baggy trousers, i just need is a xbox live gold account, a controllor, a copy of the game and a headset prefforbly, and some of the fetures will not come over here in england, like netflix. i realy just want the old layout back,

Not really. But it would be nice if the avatars can be playable in retail games instead of Arcade games. Hell, Nintendo's Miis are in both retail and Wiiware games.

We use our avatars when we play Scene It? Box Office Smash, which is a retail game. The larger issue is that the avatars just won't fit in many styles of game. They would look completely out of place in most anything other than party game or quiz show style games. Can you imagine your avatar as your opponent in a game of Gears of War 2, or as the main character in an RPG, or taking the place of Ryu in Street Fighter 4?

I despise those avatars, just another money grabbing scheme by a gaming company to rob a bunch of halfwits of their cash so that they can pretend the dashboard is actually the Sims.
Personally, I blame Nintendo for all of this as they started the whole thing rolling, and as everyone can see from past experience, they're #1 for trying to make easy money.

I think the fact we can unlock clothes for avatars is a great idea, i love actually having something to show for my effort aside from gamerscore. I personally wish more games would do the unlocks for achievements personally (e.g. Armor for achievements in halo 3). So I consider This avatar unlock system close enough to what i actually wanted.

This actually starts to give the avatars a point, though i'm still not sold of the idea of them. Too childish really.

So the tl;dr version is "oh noes, extra features?". so don't use the avatar marketplace. all the other features are quite useful and are great timesavers.

NXE was cool? It just slowed down the Guide considerably and added Xii's and some other useless features. So I'm not exactly holding my breath for the new update. But we'll see.

I think they are jumping the gun here. If there were more things to do with your Avatar it might be worth it, but there aren't.

With Playstation Home they at least have a number of odd promotions like that interactive Siren game/promotion thing you can do.

Maybe if XBL made more Avatar games, and some that were you know... more interesting (none of them capture my imagination) I could see a point to it.

As long as they don't start making us pay for updates, or an update doesn't make my Xbox come to life and whip me, I'm fine with their updates.

And...

I like a pimpin' avatar.

Who cares if other people buy it? As long as you don't then you really don't have anything to complain about.

And the update is free and doesn't ruin anything as of yet, so I don't see why we're debating it's worth.

They need to make an FPS that uses your avatar, and has alot of gore so you can brutally murder other peoples AVs.
They need to let us revert back to the old dashboard system since they can't make the current one run nearly as smooth. Allow the customer to choose like PS3 does with Home (not saying 360 needs home, but on PS3 you can run the system via Home or from the XMB if you don't want to put up with all the extra Home stuff).

That's where they do something clever - I've only seen it done on one game, Warioware: Smooth Moves, but I bet there are others. They assign a part in-game for every avatar part, meaning that your ingame character looks like an avatar on steroids - or, whatever the developer wants.

Does it matter? You can ignore the avatars and never even look at them, and you don't need to spend money on them. Some people would like too.
[Double /thread]

If it's not obvious enough, I agree with them.

I Am okay with the new layout, it's slow, but they are fixing it.
I think Avatars are stupid, they aren't implemented in almost anything(7-8 games total?), so all they do is stand around looking dumb.
I am happy to finally have some options for clothing, I still want Black/grey skin so I can be a drow.
I don't like having all my old themes and custom pics looking shitty on the dashboard, but that's life.
I got a free one and I use it.
If they speed the loading up, I'll be happy, it takes 2+ minutes for all the images in my dash to open, not cool.

Other way around, it made everything faster for me.
Oh? That's strange. Since NXE everything in my Guide takes three times as long. Opening profiles, sending messages, accepting party invites, closing the Guide... it all takes forever now. Ah well, maybe there's something wrong with my 360 then.

See, this is why you need to fuck consoles and just use computers.

Yea but most of the time computers are more hassle with games than a console is, but then consoles are dedicated gaming platforms.
