Is there a British equivalent to the 'Frat-Boy'?

I've been wondering this since in the UK it seems that 'Frat-Boy' drinking demographic seems to so much more widespread amongst students and the uneducated alike. The only Britsh I can think of that may be more closely linked to an American young demographic would our 'hipsters' or 'townies', but Escapists, what do you guys think?

Damn. The word is on the tip of my tongue. I believe Thom Yorke uses it quite often, and I listen to a fair bit of Radiohead. He grew up in Oxford, you see. Witnessed all manner of asshattery from rich students.
By frat-boy, I presume you mean a sort of affluent-yet-uncouth college drunk? I guess you could call them 'yahoos'..

We do seem to drink and be generally more obnoxious than American youths (I don't really like it here). From what I understand, frat-boys are just American students who drink and party a lot and, speaking as a student, that description goes for all of us
I guess, yeah, the dick-head extremely obnoxious and rude equivalent would be chavs

That type of college culture is just held in a different regard this side, there are no "fraternities" so this type of culture is just not fostered, people still act like pricks and trash houses but its not quite in the same strange way that Americans do it. People just don't give them as much credit for acting "like a frat boy" and just call them out on shitty behavior.

OT: Yes I guess Chavs is about the closest(?) with the general attitude of "I dont care what happens to others as long as me and my mates have fun"

I think these guys are kind've similar, assuming we're talking about the same 'college student with rich parents' deal.

I think the closest thing would be chavs. Rude,poorly dressed, drunken yobs who do horrible things to both other people and the English language.

(I know my English skills aren't perfect but those of the stereotypical Chav are really bad

In universities we have your standard "rugby lad" type. Big stocky lad, sporting stubble, loud, generally offensive, drinks like a fish, dodgy initiation tasks, very competitive. But yet not overall douchebag either...

is that the sort of thing? Rich parents are not universal, but not absent either I'm sure.

But that's just specific to Universities.

If someone looks like a dick, acts like a dick, then he's probably just a dick.

After reading about the "chavs" it seems closer to our "Wigger" (white suburban kids trying to be "niggers") similar to the "Wangster" (White suburban "gangster") which my friends recently called the "Angster" (Suburban youths with their own level of angst going through an existential breakdown and trying to be "gangster". doesn't have to be white)

In the UK we have a collective term for social degenerates that offer no purpose or prospects for their own lives or others. We simply call them dickheads...
