Is there a bug in my MGS3: Snake Eater?

I got it for the 3DS, and it seems like no item or weapon I pick up is registered by the game. Thermal goggles, bug juice, claymore mines... None of them appear in my items screen or my weapons screen.

What's the deal?

EDIT: The wonderful Bad Jim has solved the problem wonderfully! No need for further help, and if a mod feels like locking the thread that's absolutely fine.

Have you gone into the inventory menu and actually equipped them to the ingame inventory bar? Should be in the same place your camo options are.

No, see, they don't appear on that menu.

It's not bugged, it's just weirdly implemented.

When you go into your backpack what you actually see are nine quick-slots. Select a slot, press A, and you can now select from any item/weapon you have to put in that slot. Also note that both items and weapons are themselves subdivided into three categories, so if you still can't find it look in the other two subcategories. If that fails you may be looking for a weapon in the item menu or vice versa, as Mr Kojima defines 'weapon' strangely in some cases.

If you press start, it'll open the start menu where there'll be the list of camo, map, backpack, options, etc. You select backpack from the start menu and it'll give you a list of /all/ of the items/weapons you have. You have to equip them from there, and then they'll show up in the traditional L and R menus in game. (Presuming L and R open those traditional Metal Gear Solid item and weapon menus in the 3DS version)

Basically, you want to navigate to the right hand screen:

You can only equip 8 items and 8 weapons at once, and the heavier they are, the faster your stamina gauge will drain. It's not that noticible, so you don't really have to worry about it, but that /seems/ to be why the system was implemented.

I am going by the original PS2 version, so there might be an easier way to do it on the 3DS version, but that should still work, obviously if they're not showing up in the start menu, then yeah, I'd say it was bugged.

Otherwise, have fun!
