A friend and I decided to watch the documentry Bowling for Columbine by Micheal Moore at his house yesterday and a very informative (actually it's more of a ridiculus parody and really wasn't that informative) cartoon short came up.

You see the film was basicly about why America is so obsessed with guns, and this really summed up that Americans are way too paraniod and have way to many guns. You see the media feeds American citizens a constant stream of fear and paranioa to get them to buy things such as alarms, guns and anything they can use to "protect" themseles. Thoughts?

Seems plausible to me. One of the scariest things to many people is death, and most will take any means necessary in order to avoid it. Guns allow people to feel safe, as they know that one shot can potentially kill anyone.

Isn't Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore? I'm pretty sure the creator of The Watchmen doesn't do documentaries.

OT: That really is a widely held belief in America. Holds true even in my house, although we actually do have reason to worry because my brother's past drug dealings got him involved with some less than reputable people. We're so proud of him...

I'm not paranoid at all about people randomly killing me. I generally get along with everyone. besides i'm not a gun carrier i am more of a knife guy so until they make a law allowing me to carry my bowie knife around with me at all times i'm all MEH>

It's Michael Moore actually buddy. And he's.... eh.... I don't know... a little biased. He does make alot of good points in his films, but what makes me not take his seriously is the fact he has a hard time seperating the documentary aspect of his films from the personal feelings aspect of his films. Just when you think he's making a really good point he goes off and does something idiotic and rather childish, not to mention the fact the he greatly exagerates and cleverly edits his films to get them to achieve the desired affect for his audience. I suggest you watch the film titled Michael Moore Hates America, it's on Hulu.com if your interested.

Also if you are going to make a film whose entire purpose is to portray the evil of firearms, then that's all you are going to find. And no not everyone in America are like these people portryed here.

A small bit if any.

Yes, some people do get a bit scared when their way of life gets threatened. That is how the Civil War started afterall. The Agricultural South being taxed heavily by a goverment that had northerners more then southerners in it (As you know, the population between both sides of the country, was relativly even. But the South had a large number of Blacks and they didn't count for a full person, only 1/4th. This hindered the amount of representives in Congress for the south.).

I don't honestly believe that Americans are that paranoid. Yes, the gun sale records shot through the roof during the civil rights movements, but following Dr.King's death, riots broke out in a lot of cities and it became dangerous and it is understandable.

The Watchmen was created by Alan Moore.

OT: It makes sense, but it's just speculation. There are too many variables for anyone to say 'oh Americans love guns because of this or that'. Everything can influence, from racism to westerns.

It was three fifths not 1/4.

But yes we Americans are a little gun obsessed, and even thought the Supreme Court has rule three or four times the Second Ammendment doesnt not mean citizens have a right to own a gun.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects a right to keep and bear arms in a well organized militia(aka the National Guard).

Any attempt to change this by a politician is political suicide.

second off wow that was... just no. thats not it at all. go get a history txt book and read it. that was just ignorant satire. people want guns nowadays to defend their homes from home invaders or to go hunting. unless its the inner city in which gang violence is a problem but hey youd have that problem anywhere

That video seemed like Anti-White propaganda. Oh well, it's by Michael Moore, so it's bound to be full of asshattery.
Yeah, Anti-White propoganda... like when they fleed Britain, which everyone knows isnt a majoritively white country... oh wait. Okay, what about when they mentioned fighting the Briti- wait no, thats the British again... Right, what about when they mentioned the civil war which was between the... dang it, white people again.

This "Anti-White" propoganda is getting better... putting white people on BOTH sides.

Yes. I hate Michael Moore and Jane Fonda.
-It's obvious that the world is a dangerous place, there are shootings, murders, and kidnappings everyday(though not to such proficiency that news media would like you to believe). You must be ready to defend yourself at anytime. I don't carry or own any guns, I prefer hand to hand combat, much more fun.

I'm saying there's crazy motherfuckers everywhere, prepare for it. Also, I just said I don't own guns. I'm not terribly worried about getting shot either, but you know, just in case. Yah! IRON BEAR CLAW!

Iron Bear Claw isnt a thing... unless you cover a bear claw in iron.

EDIT: Also I am going to go ahead and remain constantly un-afraid.
