because it is popular, yet, you know your hate is not justified?

I do thos alot, sadly. Often conforming to non conformity.

For example, a close group of friends often discuses the television or anime series that they are interested in, and I made a policy of never really watching anything they do because of the built up expectations and judgements.

I used to do the same with the call of duty series, but I have a joking self parody about that, since I purchased bloops and find that rather amusing and (mostly) balanced and all that. But that is a seperate thread.

An obvious broad example is Justin Beiber and Twilight.

What is the popular thing you detest that you know is not quite justified?

Avatar. I actually enjoyed it when I saw it; it wasn't anything special, but it was a fun, throwaway piece of entertainment.

But then the amount of people swanning around spouting bullshit about it being "teh greatest film EVAR!!11!" made me retroactively hate the damn thing. I literally shiver with anger at hearing anyone talk about it like it was in some way special.

I don't really do that. If I dislike something, it's because I actually do not like it; not because it is popular.

smartphones, when it comes to technology im often first in line to get the newest gadget that can do several unnecessary things, but i just always hated it in phones, i will say its not completely unjustified, with all these guys trying to things bigger, better and more important differently you never know what you get when you buy a phone, the last 3 i had where all complete crap.

i dont actually mind twilight, i have always been a fan of monster movies and i respect that the author of the books managed to make the classic characters her own and introduced them to a whole new generation, even if its something i have no interest in, and bieber, i dont listen to the radio, so i havent heard any of his or any other pop artist whom its cool to hate's songs, and honestly as long as they dont promote harmful behaviour or have an political agenda, its no skin off of my ass.

Hahah, that is good. I am a bit envious, I tend to be shallow at times.

Justin Bieber definetly. Totally unjust, it's just the way it is. Twilight too, though you've mentioned both, since the movies just plain suck and the actors are horrible.

Sometimes I make snap judgements like that... but inevitably I catch myself and try out whatever it is anyway.

As for Twilight, though... that's a very justified hate, as far as I'm concerned. Read enough of that schlock to know that MovieBob's right about it.
As for Bieber... I've never liked that style of music, so I can't comment.
Avatar... well, the movie was entertaining, but the writing was beyond bland. I could have come up with that script in an evening at home.

All the shooter games that everyone seems to play. Modern War(I believe?), Call of Duty, Battlefield and the Halo games.
I have hardly touched them and I'm sure I won't in the near future. Never been much for multiplayer anyways.

And ofc Twilight, as mentioned previously in the thread. I never get near things that seem to be aimed for 13 year old girls. All these f*cking vampire spin offs that appear everywhere makes me puke as well. True Blood, Vampire Diaries... Make vampires cool again ffs!

I used to feel this way about FF13, plus when I played it the first time I felt the first hour or two sucked. I was content to leave my opinion there, but then my dad bought it for me on Christmas, so I decided I'd give it another shot. I'm about 5 hours or so in now and I'm... quite pleasantly surprised actually.

I'm really guilty of this with popular music today. I say I dislike it even though I never listen to it unless I'm out in public and its on the radio. Which, to be fair, I do dislike most of it, but Alejandro is quite catchy..

Also a mild case for Twilight and Avatar. While calling either of them "good" is a bit of stretch, I can't really call them bad either. I enjoyed them well enough the first time through at any rate. Though I never defend them against people who say they're awful.

Anime.

I just get pissed off when someone calls it a medium.
Sort of a mini-medium? You definitely can't call it a genre.

That perfectly summarizes how I spent the months of my life following Avatars release.

Portal, and anything my Valve really.

I find the Valve fanbase to be the most annoying people on the planet. Even more annoying than Bieber-ettes.

OH!

And "Firefly". WTF? This isn't anywhere near as good as Buffy, or even Angel.
