So I plan to save money for a gaming laptop, before you say that a gaming laptop is not worth it, and that they're more expensive (which is true) I want a laptop because I can bring it along with me to my friends house (it's a little stupid reason but eh I'm the one spending the money)and because it's easier to bring it to my country (I live in Venezuela) than bringing a fuckton of computer parts, also I'm tired of my sad excuse of a pc. So here's the link

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ROG-G750JH-DB71-17-3-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00EZ8BJNK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1395036471&sr=8-4&keywords=asus+republic+of+gamers#productDetails

I am well aware that upgrading a laptop is next to impossible, so I want to buy something that lasts me some years and can run recent games smoothly (not necessarily on super ultra hd graphics, but not on lowest settings either.)

It may take me a whole year to earn the money for it or maybe more, since I'm working on the internet and haven't found a good way to earn money yet, But eh that's my problem.

Thanks in advance.

The processor is a little weak but the graphic card is good. You should be able to run most current games on ultra with FPS of 70-90 with that setup. You should be still be able to run games on medium in 4-5 years time. You will need some extra cooling for laptop, its going to run hot.

Considering the state of technology, it's not very sensible to ask for advice on which laptop to buy a year from now

I agree with this. Moor's Law is still relevant and a year is a long time technology-wise. Especially now with the next gen being current gen and a lot of games just coming out for that (among other stuff that's going to be shaping the gaming world).

Better settle for a ballpark figure you'd be happy with and come back in a year (or less, assuming you get the money sooner, best of luck in that regard) to ask what is something good you can buy with the money.

I would also advise you to give a second thought of whether to get a desktop or a laptop. You seem to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages, so just weight them another time before making the purchase - that's all I'd suggest to you.

And finally - again, best of luck in your money-earning endeavours. May capitalism be on your side.

Why not have a gaming laptop and desktop like me?

Ok seriously, I would advice you as said in earlier posts is to get the money first, then ask us about what to buy.

Also, you are making the smart move of buying a gaming laptop first. Many disagree with me on this but since Ive had the experience of having just a desktop, just a laptop and both at the same time (now that is) I think its the best to start with and its worth putting some extra bucks in it.

It gives you the mobility while still having the strength for high-end gaming, plus if you want you cant just plug it to a display (given that it has a HDMI port), mouse and keybord to get a more desktop feel.

Don't even try upgrading a laptop, it will only end badly unless you built it yourself. By the time your laptop starts dragging heavily behind (given that it hasn't been treated to badly over the years) you should have either made enough money for a new one or you have already built a desktop to keep you satisfied until then.

Word from the wise: buy a cooling pad with fans in it, these laptops tend to get hot with high-end gaming

I would say go for it. My own experiences with this lines laptops have very positive. Also I wouldn't worry about the cpu speed too much. they even have an easy to use interface for overclocking when you feel you will need it. Though to be honest the graphic card will likely make up for the lost cpu speed in terms of gaming performance so you may never actually feel inclined to use the overclock option anyway. Just keep in mind that you will need to do something to mitigate the heat this will put out. Make sure you also get a nice cooling pad for it. You will need it.
